Off topic a little -more exploits of the Axe Fx Dumble Patch
Hi guys,
Please lend an ear... Here are three more Axe Fx clips I made. I've been tweaking the Axe Fx to see if I can get a convincing facsimile. Any of these cut it?
http://www.scottlernermusic.com/axe/BadMarinMilk.mp3 (higher gain, my fave playing of the three)
http://www.scottlernermusic.com/axe/DminAxeFx.mp3 (recorded today - best air in the tone)
http://www.scottlernermusic.com/axe/GoneFlatAxe.mp3 (a little dark)
Thanks!
new clips, much better I think.
http://www.scottlernermusic.com/axe/BubblyOneFXre.mp3 (today)
http://scottlernermusic.com/axe/HATaxe2.mp3 (last week)

Those are so close it's ridiculous!
I agree, I like the first one better.

Is that your Baker?
What are you amplifying the FX with?

First one is best, I agree. What about the "singing sustain" thing? What does the amp do when you let a note just ring for a while? Does it ever start the singing, harmonic feedback thing?

Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...

Jeeeeezus....
.....they all sound great. #1 floats the boat here. But not by much. Signal chain? Stupendous playing, by the way.

Thanks Tom! No amping. That was Axe direct SPDIF into the computer. I juts listened to the monitor mix while I played. Clip 1 was the Carruthers CSA. Clips 2 and 3 were the Baker B1. That is maple top and solid mahogany.

It sings, but without live loud room volume, it won't react the same. I do think if I had it going through a cab as well, it would be close.

Thanks for listening! Glad you dug the playing. That is always my top priority!

#2 for tone - by a slight margin. Not bad for a "chrystal lattice".dogears wrote:Hi guys,

Would you use this rig live? If so, what would the signal chain be to the speaker? Ever tried that Eleven Rack? I find all of this interesting.
Great playing by the way.

N.2 is terrific IMHO, great sound and playing, as usual!

friggin awesome playing scott, as usual
#2 has more dstyle sustain and harmonics, but the rockin groove of #1 gets me more in the mood. #2 has the bluesy tune, which we all tend to associate more with dumbles (thus easier to identify with), but #1 could be dstyle, set on OD, with the od dialed down and smooth, just has a bit more crunchy feel and lacks the deep sustain, bit thinner.
very nice. I could see myself getting excited if I heard #1 on the radio!
also, nice rythm guitar on 1, and the hammond on 2 adds that subtle yet required background harmonic for that style.

it really is a journey, and you just cant farm out the battle wounds

#2 for me, light and airy but fat at the same time.
Does Axe have a D-patch now or are you making that one yourself?

Re: Off topic a little -more exploits of the Axe Fx Dumble Patch
I can't evaluate these on which clip sounds most like a real D style amp. I will say, however, that #2 sounds the most like a tube amp to me. I'm not saying the other clips were bad, just #2 is more dynamic to my ear. I think any of these clips would be totally passable on any commercial recording.
One of the things that I don't like about the typical Line 6 stuff is that it sounds sterile and disappears in a mix. These clips don't. #2 especially sounds alive and sits really well. Kudos. Seems to me that this would be a great tool for recording in a small personal studio if you don't have the ability to get a really good mic'd amp tone. It also doesn't hurt to have killer chops.......now where can I buy those

Sorry about that.....
I have not tried it live yet. I'd like to try it with the Atomic monitors. Not tried the Eleven yet.
I just recorded this today. I have made great progress I think! Sounds like an amp now. And I was getting good feedback, even just using my ADAM monitors while recording.
