So the problem was a bad bias pot?

Not a problem, the next step was that I was going to call you. It all worked out, besides you learn much more when things don't go as planned.

Main problem was my poor workmanship in that I had
a filament wire shorting out... after that it was the bias pot
not sure if the pot was bad to begin with or a short killed it

Thanks TM

Thanks alvarezh
I hope I can help someone out with a build someday
just seems like the more I learn the more I see I need to learn
if that makes sense.
Also I appreciate your time on this build

Thanks again

Had a few minutes to crank it
family was out of the house...
JJ 6ac7 power tubes
Using a LP with 57 Classics
A ToneTubby Alnico as test speaker in open back cab
no dlator or effects
My initial reaction was it was brighter than I was expecting
easier to get a good balance between OD and Clean using
both pickups and Volume knobs

It defiantly has an attitude..nice to have the power to be pissed or subtle just using the guitar controls

Will be trying different tubes and checking voltages next.
Strat and Tele is waiting as is EV speaker.

Will need to research some PAB options it seems a little anemic

My first 100 watt build...not my last :)

Really appreciate everyones help on this build

My #183 has just a little glass on it, not harsh or anything though. When I hook up the D'Lator and the RG400 patch cables, it makes world of difference.

How did you wire the PAB relay/R-J switch using Jason's relay board?

Hi ToneMerc
just a little glass on it...8) nice description
I don't feel any harshness with this build either

as for the PAB I pretty much followed the layout...would be fine if
that's wrong because it doesn't sound quite right...Now that I think of it remember someone saying to use an on-off-on switch for that...which I did not...I have to ask TM how is it wired?

Glad you got it going Darin.

Just a heads up, the OD trimmer can really make or break the OD sound.

Most recommend a setting of 20-30K.
That is measured at the wiper to ground with the amp on and the OD switch on.

I like mine around 25K.

Thanks Tom
I haven't spent a lot of time with it
but I have it set around 22k now and it seems good

I did change drop string from 22k to 18k and upped the voltage on V1 from
around 195 to 205 and still playing with preamp tubes

Problem now is the FET input isn't working
so I'm looking closer at my wiring of that.

Darin,
I've found that those switches on the fet input jack can be touchy. they have to make good contact.

Yeah I used a Switchcraft 14b jack on my FET input and everything worked perfectly.

Then a month or so later I wanted to try my SSS strat guitar through it.

But it was cutting out, if I wiggled the plug it would work but then cut out.

I haven't pulled the chassis but I suspect those leaf switches need to be tweaked.
