Jelle, those are the transformers I used in my build. With a 5AR4 or a 5Y3 rectifier the PT produces more voltage than Charlie Wilson documentation demonstrates. My voltages are pretty much the same as Mark's build, drops closer to the Dumble values with the 5Y3.

With either rectifier the amp rocks.

Yes, exactly. I want to keep the B+ to reasonable levels to prevent that the OT crosses over to the other side.

I'm currently using a 5u4 rectifier tube until I find my 5v4 stuck in some amp around here.

#2 is a sweet amp now. I changed the set to bias to adjustable. I have a 150mA PT 330-0-330 5v 3amp 6.3v 3 amp. Modified the PI so it has infinite sustain like #1
I saw a Conn stereo amp with the same OPT that used 6L6GB'S and a 5U4
I have a pair of RCA black plate 6L6GB it sounds warm and full. Idle Bias set to -30 and the 5U4
Puts the JJ 6V6-S burn in tubes to shame. #2 has just the prefect volume level on 2 just like #1 now.
I really enjoyed this project #1 build time 4 hours #2 50 hours and still counting.

Steve, what did you do to modify the PI?

I'm also curious about the PI mod, and by the above do you mean that you switched from cathode bias to fixed bias on the output stage or ?

I used the bias as in my Fender 5G12 and as far as the PI Jim Price gave me the idea on his 5E4 build.
That was a starting point. So Charlie's layout was just a platform My two new amps are a far cry from
a copy of anything. I did make a copy of Charlie's layout and was disappointed so I changed them.
And to get the final results I studied all Tweed and Brown Fenders made.

I have been wondering how long it would take for this thread to arrive here.

WTF?!?! Now I am totally baffled by all of this.

It sounds like it is (almost) a completely different amp now than what was originally presented by our good Charlie Wilson.

Does this mean that all of the initial, dripping accolades regarding the stock build as presented by Charlie was pure hyperbole?

I am beginning to sense a VERY serious credibility issue in this thread. Looks like Vibratoking sensed that long, long ago!

67plexi decided to do something different. And he has not shared his tweaks. So what? Does he have to?

It does not take anything away from the amp that Charlie posted/Dumble designed.

Thank you Charlie! Really appreciate the info.....

I'm not going to feed the trolls on this one. I learned from Charlie's layout it's not fake.
And I am thankful. In its stock form it does sound like Kenny Wayne Shepherd's video.
So I made a error on the PI in the first build and all hell broke loose. That was before Charlie posted his layout. All I have to say is do your own R & D and find out what works for you.

Oh, so we're trolls? If not, then who are exactly the trolls?

Oh, and I guess you're not thankful enough to return any information. Only thankful enough to take it. Who was the troll that Charlie was feeding? You?

No longer interested in hearing this amp. Obviously, I am not going to be able to build a copy of it, so, no need for sound clips. Suffice it to say I'm happy for you and the amp sounds great - but no need to post clips.
