All I know is that as many times as I've tried vintage 30's I know I don't like them, so I won't be doing any clips with them!!! LOL!! I just got some ASW speakers, I'll try those.

Also Just picked up a Japanese RF guitar, that may help as well- MAN I'm addicted to these things!
Hi Brandon,

G12H-30 (for my ears) work perfect with many ODS styles. I love these with 70ies Dumbles! An early seventies ODS (50W too!) and a Marshall "basketwave" (25, pre-Rolas) resoldered for 4 OHMS are a great combination too. All my personal taste of course and if the speakers still in perfect condition.

All the best

Max,

If you can, try to compare the G12H-30 version with a 1777 cone to the one with the 014 cone. I know which one I like for which application! Very different and both very cool. Have fun!

Hi Jelle,

Yes, you're right. I even mixed both kind of cones in a 4x12" and liked it .

Have a nice weekend.

Like Scott says, bright and smooth is the tough part of the Dumble magic.

And I would like to add:

- definition a n d charme
- right into the face a n d leaving no bruises
- articulate in all tiny details of picking and fingering a n d just the tiny bit of sag to give the right playing comfort
- shimmering highs a n d no trace of fuzz
- mids that give enough body to carry the tone a n d never "thru the nose" but singing like a tenor with chest- and head-voices
- deeps that are fundamental a n d defined
- OD sounds that are clean a n d full of lush and rich harmonics
- clean sounds that are clear and defined like a bell a n d sustaining like hell

or in one word:

musical

Funkalicousgroove wrote:So I had my little recording setup going yesterday to send a customer some clips of his new amp, and I couldn't resist!

Aside from the playing i think I got relatively close.

Guitar is an 85 ish Esprit- Bone Stock, Amp is a High Plate Classic, Loop-a-lator in the loop (no effects) cab is my 2x12 open with new G12-65's

Please do not post this clip on any other forums as I am not interested in the muck associated-

Enjoy!!
Brandon, terrific sound and great playing. Better than most, if not all, other takes on Politician over the years.

I think there's a version that Robben Ford did, it's pretty good too.

Max wrote- mids that give enough body to carry the tone a n d never "thru the nose" but singing like a tenor with chest- and head-voices

I wonder if that's part of why Stevie Ray didn't care for the ODS like the discusion going on in the other thread; an old freind of mine's dad taught Stevie to literaly sing "through his nose".

I think that a lot of tweaking ends up getting the amp to talk to the guitar and also not to get to weird or anything, but to certain "chakra" that artistically make sense to the player.

Some players are centered in their brainpan, others their heart, others their groin, of course some play with their whole body, but I think where their musical thoughts originate has something to do with amp preference.

I think Robbens version is the POR, and kind of a given at this point.

Pretty sure SRV didn't like the ODS because it "Overdrives" His SSS was tweaked to not overdrive.
