Theres a huge difference to my ears between new caps and caps with a few hundred hours on them. Always warmer and smoother after "burn in"
By the way, is there a good source for 6PS caps? I cant seem to find any
It's true i've lost my marbles and i cant remember where i put them

Really?
I thought that everybody was using the 6PS caps because that is what HAD used?
Not doubting you because you have been inside the amps but where did we get the 6PS information?

The 6PS caps were in #124...Other pics posted had Xicons.. I know of D BM that used the 715's... I don't really care who used them.. Don't like em.. even broken it.. Just me!!

Really? Interesting. The amp I did a test on had maybe 20 hours on it when I ripped out the 715's. It immediatly sounded smoother and had more girth.

few HUNDRED? Really?
I usually hear a change about only 10 hours or so, then not much more. My Princeton, which I use on Wed nights for an opne mike night and has all Xicons, sounded tight and brittle until just this past Wed, when it suddenly opened up and sounded great. That was only the 3rd gig with it, so maybe 16 hours total.
So my amps will still be improving? I hope you're right.
Those 6 PS..
I didn't just follow the crowed either.. I tried all sorts of caps in these amps early on including the Bumblebees,, Green Bullets, Spragues, the blue bullet Mallory's...My first build back in the 90's were Paper in oil from Steve at Angela!! I tried the Commie caps and Sozos are in one of my HRM's..Pretty nice... Ive used Phillips Mustards that came out of a Traynor YBA-1 That is pretty Killer..
Built several w/715's Non HRM.. One prototype went to the guitar player for Zac Brown...Craig Bartock of Heart uses an early HRM with Mallory 150's going on 5 years now..I found out about the 6PS because I heard they were in Ken's TW amps..
Oh OK, I misunderstood you to say you didn't like the PS caps.
Cool, now I don't have to tear my amp apart.
What is strange is that back in the early 80's I had a friend that was into Hi Fi tube amps.
Now I don't know when the polypropylene caps first came on the scene but he was singing praises about those.
I think he used the orange drop type but I remember a couple before and after cap jobs he did and I remember thinking how much smoother the tone was from these amps once he changed them out with the polyprop caps.
I wonder if there is any kind of data or other studies done on the tonal differences between different kinds of dielectrics used in caps?
THe only amps I use 6ps all the way through are 70's and Classics, I tend to mix 6ps, 715, and NTE Mylar (CDE), and Nichicon Mylar in different positions for different effects.
I tend to agree that the amps with the 6ps caps are sweeter sounding than 715's, I was just making the observation that Dumble actually did build a few amps (famous ones at that) that have 715's in them, and they are great sounding-

Gary did some testing with his fancy-schmancy quad 4, perhaps he'd post his results?

The problem here is you can scope them all you want..But it wont tell you jack about how they will sound or feel...Sometimes crappy caps sound good in certain spots
NTE Mylar (CDE), and Nichicon Mylar in different positions for different effects.
Panasonic made a Mylar cap or a re branded Nich, that impressed me..I can see where it would be cool to put them in certain spots to smooth things out..Is that what you hear .. When I built a whole amp around them it made for a smooth tone but didn't have that 3D thing the PS or other ODps had...
Hi , In my HRM-amp I run with 715 type and there is not big difference with 6Ps I used in other amp.
I played many hours with my HRM and the sound is still good.
This is what my ears hear.
