Based on his actions (which speak louder than words) I don't think Mr. D was ever in the business of building amps. I think he was in the business of delivering unique tone. From his "prototype" agreements, to the required recordings, to the one-off nature of his amps, everything points to protecting the signature sound of the artist, not necessarily the design of the amp itself. The agreement that's circulating around on the net may well be legit, but I doubt if Carlton, Ford, Santana, Knopfler, et al had to sign it. In that regard, I don't see HAD as an eccentric genius, but as an ethical businessman.
