Re: Check this out......
I wonder if you saw my post, right above yours... listing the actual part used by Dumble. I'm reprinting it below in a slightly larger font so you can more reaidly see it.redshark wrote:Both jacks, the Kobiconn and the Calrad don't look like the one in the picture. Any other input jack options?
G.
They are "isolated make" jacks and the correct part number(s) is(are):
Enclosed Version, Nylon Bushing (Used by Dumble)
Switchcraft N113X
Open Frame Version, Metal Bushing (Common Replacement)
Switchcraft 13
Both available from Mouser by adding "502-" in front of the P/N

Any chance of some pics soon?redshark wrote:I just opened up this amp. I will post some pics. The only wood board is the one with power caps. It has 3 boards for 3 diferent preamp sections. Input, overdrive and phase inverter. The OD trimmer is glued. Seems to me they liked that setting. The amp is not gooped so all can be seen. Great sounding amp here!!

Re: Check this out......
Yes, but the owner for a while has decided not to publish the pics and I have to respect his decision.
Later he may change his mind. The amp needs some maintenance work. I may do part of it and the other part of the maintenance may be done by an active member of this forum with more experience on Dumbles, I'm a trainwreck guy by the way. So I will do common service and the parts that requiere more D experience will be done by him.
Thanks!!

What a tease!
Re: Check this out......
I'm replacing filter caps. I will post pictures soon!!
Before and after
Does anybody know what did Howard use to glue the filter caps to the board? that stuff is nasty!!

RTV Silicone
HAD seemed to be a big fan of silicone RTV...
In the 1970's, it tended to be black in color. You'll see blue liberally used (abused) when he started gooping the components of the V1/V2 region of the pre-amp board during the 1980's.
Before the "gooping" began, he used it for structural stability (protect from vibration breaking solder joints or to keep things in place, like relay covers).
As the years progressed, he used it for both purposes...structural integrity along with to ward off copycats.
Hope this helps.

Hint: When using RTV and you don't want it to stick to you, a bit of spit on your finger will stop it from sticking and you can smooth it over.redshark wrote:I'm replacing filter caps. I will post pictures soon!!Before and after

Also, can't wait to see some pics of the amp, intrigued by the PCB design.

Re: Check this out......
Dang! I've always wondered the chassis layout for PCB ODS amps. Between this and the Rick Vito ODSR we've got two great examples! Thanks again Redshark!
Re: Check this out......
Thanks Redshark
Very interesting layout. The question is, why did HAD decide to do a completely different layout and circuit board for this amp?
And, how many more PCB amps are there?
Thanks again,
Aaron

The Rick Vito is still point to point, it's just a different layout.FuzzFaceBuilder wrote:Dang! I've always wondered the chassis layout for PCB ODS amps. Between this and the Rick Vito ODSR we've got two great examples! Thanks again Redshark!
