Irony...........yeah that.Structo wrote:Anybody see the irony here?
More than irony I think it's just business. Those who have enough info on a SSS to make their own remain unwilling to share on the group level. They are and I can't say I blame them trying to protect their product. Many of these builders have years of research and maybe a few lucky trips into the honey pot in order to come up with their products. I think this becomes more urgent when their product, as in the case of Bludo's, is a direct clone.
Other makers add, subtract or combine features to create something that is a little more their own. Only good business to try and protect your product from copycat's.
I think the real irony that they all face, as well as HAD, is that tube electronics is a skill and art leading to the creation of a devise which cannot be effectively copywrite or patented. Critically, gooping something thereby making it unserviceable, is a pretty pathetic means to protect your product. Unless you've got a few lawyers and the desire to defend your pattens in U.S. court while overseas companies make your product cheaper than you can with impunity.........then I guess the goop starts to look good.
In time, what will be interesting, is to watch the value these secondary makers amps achieve in the second hand market. It's not the first owner who paid list price for the amp that's going to de-goop. If these amp's depreciate in value from buyer to buyer then it will be the second or third owner that is willing to de-goop. I see no reason to think that these amps will appreciate in value.
Lastly, to qtone........
I apologize if my questions and speculations have lessen your enjoyment of your HPD. No one likes to have their new toy dissected.
Respectfully
Eric

Or having it be OK that it's gooped because it was bought second hand?

Seeing that the SSS aren't gooped, gooping the clone makes it not a clone.

Re: Big Tex Rig underway
I don't see how the goop makes the product unserviceable. Maybe the amp would be unserviceable to an ordinary tech, but wouldn't you be crazy to take an amp you paid $6000+ to anyone other than the builder? In that case, the builder who "gooped" would have to deal with it. Maybe that's built in to the price?
Secondly if I paid $6000 for an amp and the preamp didn't last until the end of time I would be very disappointed!!

Re: Big Tex Rig underway
My joy is not lessened in any way from questions ect..
I can fully understand where some might question 3 or 5 delays or
3 or 4 vibes... I wanted to hear it all first then decide well I dont need this
or that culling it down to the main goods.
Brandon gooped the amp I guess they are all gooped to protect the secret sauce.. All I can say is the amp delivers across the boards and Im really pleased with it...
The technical specifics Im afraid I cant be of much help on because they are hidden in goop.
As for switching systems the ground control is a good unit It was what I could afford and all of this gear or most of it ive had along time...
It was gathered over 30 years of collecting and searching.
I lost 3 plexis and 2 twins last year as well as many other great items so
these amps are to replace those things and hopefully end my search.
I am not a pro gigging player but that does not bother me either...
This system is for me its something ive wanted for years and years..
I am trying to be of help but I dont know the technical side of this amp enough to explain details besides they are buried in blue goop.
Clark Kent cant see those values...with all that mess on the board.
As far as taking the amp to Brandon goes I dont need to take it to Brandon
he would not degoop the amp anyway so it would be pointless to ask and since it did not belong to Brandon in the first place design wise I dont think he should care too much.. He did not design the amp he just cloned it.
When he got it there was no mess to wade through either.
That said he sure put one in the amp its gooped to the nines...
That was not my doing nor idea it was Brandons...
I just bought an amp ive been after for along long long time to find
out what the mystery is... and to see if the hype was bullshit or not.
Its not, its a great amp.. We are working the bugs out and getting things lined up to be set in stone...
One last thing what price could you put on something that brings you joy ?
3500 ? 6000 ? 6500 ? 18 grand ? 55 grand ?
I cant afford a real one and its doubtful im ever going too be able to afford a real one....
So I bought the ticket to take the ride... and so far im real real glad I did.
This system is for me so sure I hope others like it and enjoy it and gleam something they might use from it but it does not bother me that
it does not please everyone here this system wont be for everybody..
The design was for me so I am quite pleased with it and its coming along..
What better amps to demo guitars ? I build guitars so having this system to demonstrate those would only help not hinder.

Lol license to degoop.. pay 6k and get your double o status ?amplifiednation wrote:Cloning the clone?Structo wrote:Anybody see the irony here?

I bought the amp second hand and the owner told me he did not think it was gooped but it was.
If I bought it directly and Brandon had said im going to create a blue mess
id have said no thank you to that.
I did not want to wait 2 years either so I leaped on this one.
and you bet I peeked inside it I look at all the amps I buy and go through them looking for anything fried, changed or burnt..
I think the wiring in these type amps is art and I enjoy great wiring..
I dont know all the values and technical names for each part but
im learning everyday .

12 ax7s and 6550s.
Gasket sealer belongs in car engines... not amps.
Re: Big Tex Rig underway
I'm not questioning how many uni-vibes. I don't think one man could ever have enough
I had two originals, Vibe-Unit and a modded Chicken Salad. Sold one of my originals so only have 3 now.
Don't get me started on Tubescreamers!!!!!
Regarding tube layout, is it :-
1 x pre-amp
1 x filter
2 x reverb
1 x P.I
Or no filter and 3 x reverb.
Lost 3 plexi's
the Marshall would be my pick of the bunch.

Honestly a sixties plexi beats out any amp I have ever played. I'm still in search of the ultimate Fuzz Face, as well as the ultimate Univibe. None I have played can do this:Aaron wrote:I'm not questioning how many uni-vibes. I don't think one man could ever have enough![]()

Well tonight we did some live clips video and audio the featured artist is Oliver White a local player and friend and he was cool with Greg D bringing his rig up and jamming some...
The clip shown below shows two guitarists Oliver White playing through a crossfire amp which is a 50/100 marshall clone ..
Greg D playing through his Quinn ODSR on Gregs pedal board there is a Quinn fuzz petal and a Delica Fuzz which Greg makes..
I bought one of the fuzz pedals from Greg last april and soon as it arrived I bought a 2nd one...
Best fuzz ive played and ive owned several vintage ones and sold them all.
I can vouch for this pedal and Greg is building me a octave fuzz pedal as well some other pedals... Ive seen the wiring on these and they are really nice and clean inside and sound even better...
The fuzz pedals have an option to turn the battery off without removing the input signal so your batteries dont get eaten up..
We are going to load some audio and video.
we need to edit it first..
more to come..
Meanwhile check this clip of the Delica out.
I can vouch for these pedals they sound great.
You can even do boost with it ala tube screamer
so I found several settings... thus buying 2...

Re: Big Tex Rig underway
Slightly off topic; I like that idea of being able to turn off the battery in the fuzz, I was wondering if there's something similar on the mutron clone? I had a mutronIII back in the radioshack battery club card days (remember those?) and could get a couple days tops out of the twin 9vs. Sold it for a good price and as much as I loved the sound of it, it was almost a novelty thanks to battery life expectancy.
Greg do you have a website for your pedals?
