Re: #102 Started. Checking in
Thanks tony...the slope resistor was a mistake! I will swap it out.
Thanks for all the tips guys, I appreciate it.

Beautiful work Taylor, what I would expect from you, you perfectionist
Mine look pretty good at first, till I start tweaking and adding switches and pots

Re: #102 Started. Checking in
I was looking at the wrong layout when I put the cap and slope in. I didn't notice the differences until now. I'm not sure how though. Good catch. You have eyes like a hawk.talbany wrote:Taylor
Looks good but what's up with the 100k slope and .047 mid cap? (classic stack) #102 was a standard Skyliner stack..If you are looking for the classic RF tone you have to go straight skyliner..![]()
Tony
I have the correct value orange drop, but only 150k I have is an RN65. I might be at a standstill for a couple days unless I find a rogue CF around here.
Rog, thanks man, I'm just trying to catch up to you guys!rogb wrote:Beautiful work Taylor, what I would expect from you, you perfectionist![]()

I don't know how you experts mod and tweak these amps; at least the values on the eyelet boards. Is there a strategy to assembly that allows for swapping out parts later?
I'm starting to use my desoldering tools a lot more with this build.

Yes mine is very carefully thought out, I call it "shoehorning"amplifiednation wrote:I was looking at the wrong layout when I put the cap and slope in. I didn't notice the differences until now. I'm not sure how though. Good catch. You have eyes like a hawk.talbany wrote:Taylor

Re: #102 Started. Checking in
Haha, so there is a strategy.
Here's a question!
In other amps I've built the NFB loop off the 8ohm OT tap. The OT I'm using is a single secondary 4ohm 100w Bassman OT.
Will I have to make an alterations to any values of the NFB loop?
I might use the extension jack as a switch for the NFB circuit since I won't be able to drive the amp to lower impedance.

I believe you want the negative feedback connected to the 4 ohm tap so you are good there.

Gents,
I've made some decent progress. I'm probably about 75% there. I need to run a couple coax's and wire up my heaters and the power board. I figured I would check in just in case I overlooked something.
I took everyone's advice so far...and I really do appreciate the help. This is one hell of an amp build!!

D,
1970 twin PT, 1973 schumacher twin OT. I hope it kills...I took this build very seriously, i'm hoping to get some good tone and mojo with the vintage iron. The cloth leads are barely long enough, but they are gonna reach.

Getting there Taylor.
I suggest moving your 1M resistor on the input jack to the RH side. The way it is installed now could interfere with the operation of the jack contact. When you insert the plug on the jack, the contact could push back against the resistor, not worth taking a risk IMO.
Keep it up!

Horacio,
I'll consider the modifaction. That resistor just sits so nicey there...
Where is a good place to route the furthest most power tube grid run? I was gonna have it go under the PS board...is that a good place?

"That resistor just sits so nicey there…"
Ok, leave it on that side, but install it close by the base of the jack as shown on this picture. Insulate the resistor's leads.

I would say yes. Most all connections from front to back go underneath the boards. On other amps sometimes that's not possible but on Dumbles they can run underneath since the boards are mounted high off the chassis.
Cheers.

Re: #102 Started. Checking in
Taylor, personally I would redo it and there's no better time now than to do it. I take the approach that I don't ever want to revisit a project for an issue related to a prodedure that I didn't feel 100% about. Nevertheless, it might not ever come back to haunt you, but then again it could happen next week and also when you do have a problem it's one less thing to worry about or take into consideration.amplifiednation wrote:Horacio,

A little more time spent on the front end can cost a lot less than PITA time spent on the back end, I value piece of mind.

Re: #102 Started. Checking in
Yup I am with you...I will reposition the resistor, once the fet jack is in there it is game over.
How does everything else look? I need to jump the top lug of the pab mini toggles right?
