Re: 59 Fender Bassman with Dumble La Tostada mod

Post by dcribbs1412 »

This was my very first post ever on this site. I was excited to learn there was info on these Great amps. I simply was asking if anyone had heard of this mod before, as I was excited to hear replys. I really do not know a whole lot about this particular amp, and just was wondering if anyone out here had heard of it and could offer there thoughts. Now that I really see the big picture, Its clear to me that all some people really want is something else to copy. This to me is really sad. To those who really understand where I was comming from, Thank You. For those Knuckleheads that don't, well then Screw you! This is my first and FINAl post.I'll find out somewhere else. G'Daya. J.
this is a understandable reaction although I think most here are not looking
to "copy" but to understand the principles behind what different
values or "mods" can do for tone and feel of certain amp designs
be it older Fender or newer. In a sense todays technology has given us
all a chance at acquiring vast knowledge and with collaboration
taking it to the next level not seen in the not so distant past
I believe taking this knowledge forward is what this forum can do

It's been mentioned a few times before on here.

What is great about that thread is the way the OP approached the subject and discussed it. That's a fine example.

Quite possibly if the OP had been steered towards Ultrahookedonphonix's thread about the modded Fender amps, this whole thing could have been avoided.

As far as sharing anything publicly, that is what this site has always been about, right?
If not then it should be a exclusive club or private forum.

Several of the original members now sell amps.
Gee, I wonder where they got all the information to do that?

Question for those who have played La Tostada:

Do the controls retain the original functions? And if not, how so?

Thanks.

I think it's sad when a new member get their feathers ruffled due to the utilitarian practicality of this group. It happened a few weeks back with the dude who owned and Echosonic. When no one was inherently impressed with his ownership and we asked for details or better pictures he got pissed, took his amp and left. Same now with the tostada. When asked for details dude gets mad over the lack repeated request for details and lack of excitement over his ownership.

Maybe we should start a special worship section for coveted amps.

Jeez... you guys really know how to clear a room. I was hoping he'd post some clips at least, and talk about knowing HAD, but no, you gotta run him by calling names.

I think I'll go back to 2nd grade where this behavior is expected.

Bob, I can find no evidence anywhere about the existence of a La Tostada mod, others may know of it, but I cannot find anything.
EDIT: Apart from UHOP's thread, where he tried one modded to this spec

If the OP is as ignorant of amp internals and workings as he has stated, then without seeing evidence of labeling or internal modifications, some doubt must be cast over the provenance of this Dumble mod.

That's how I see it.

Point taken.

I had my opinions and doubts. Perhaps at fault for sharing them.... I'm reminded of a quote I have in my collection..

I couldn't agree more. The OP is looking for input from other owners of the La Tostada mod? That's laughable. If he knows HAD, then he has a direct route to everyone that owns that amp. Why come here?

Sometimes the room needs to be cleared. What you hope for and what you get are often very different. The OP wasn't going to provide any useful information, electronics or audio, IMO. So, I guess it's back to 2nd grade for you. :P Of course, the OP could prove me wrong at any time by posting gut shots and/or clips. In reality, nothing is stopping him from doing either if he chooses. At that point, he might actually get what he said he came here for - a real discussion about his amp. Let's see...

Send 'er over, I'd be happy to install a effects loop for you :-)
