Enjoy that solder station Rog! ;)

I must say tho, that hammond have a recto file to reference on their website that states the 369ex is able to be used with or without the centre tap.
In fact its across the 300 series. This is misleading as the wiring shows them with a CT and w/out one. Ive searched everywhere for some wiring info on them to see how they can wire it for both but found nothing.
I also found out that you can run a centretapped PT without the CT and use a bridge rec, but you get a little more voltage...which could be useful if youre running some of them 800V russian tubes! hahaha might have to try that!

I guess hammond must either have a second set of sec taps to maintain the right secondary, or you must be able to order a CT'd PT or non CT'd?
Any hammond experts out there?

You will get there Rog, and the expense in the lesson really helps the memory banks ;) Bit like getting the cane at school! hahaha ;)

Will report back when i fix my low voltage issue ;)

Thanks for that mate, the more info on this build the better!
I am sure you can run the PT without a CT to ground and with a bridge recto, but not with both as I did.
EDIT: Perhaps not after all!!!!
This from the Valve Wizard:
"The bridge rectified power supply is common to modern amplifiers as it economises on transformer design. It requires a non centre-tapped transformer and a minimum of four diodes."

As for the cane, I had that mate, we got em in sixes, and what was called the "slipper", in fact a rubber soled trainer, they came in tens .
Dunno if it made me a better person, but it put me off S&M for life!!!!

Sorry about the messy boards and birds nest wiring , but I did my best with my sausage fingers and crappy old eyes.
Just ordered one of those visor magnifiers that I have seen pics of Leo wearing, but too late for this one.

The boards look dirty but it is because I marked connections with a permanent OHP marker pen and it is a bitch to remove now

I will do some clips sometime but I have never done that so it will be a new experience. I think the speaker needs quite a few more hours on it to loosen up. Sounds a lot better through my G12-65, but I am happy with it for a 10" with a footprint of an A4 piece of paper :D

The EF86 is a gain monster and really needs controlling with pick weight and striking force. I made up a tube cover spaced out internally with nitrile O rings and it seems to control the 86 in the combo cab.

I took it to my nephew's yesterday, and he is a critical little teen, and he liked the tones a lot, especially with the HRM in which smooths it a lot. More let's say Vox AC like without the HRM.

The cleans are good with the EL84 and better with the 6V6, but the drive is improved by the EL84 and driving the power amp on the clean channel gives a whole load of crunch tones.

It cleans up perfectly from the guitar volume and after jamming it for an hour, didn't feel the need for a pedal at all!

I am waiting for the new Nanoverb 2 to come out which will sit in the bottom of the cab providing a touch of verb and delay, to "open up" the 10" and small cab combo.

I tried my Dlator/TC GSharp rig and of course, it sounds really good through that.

Conclusion is that it has turned out better than expected, and I think will improve too as it burns in and I do a little tweaking and maybe find some alternative tubes.

Thanks again of course to Mat, Collosal and 10thtx for the hard work done on the earlier versions. Structo for his help as always, azatplayer and surfsup for wise words, and any others who chipped in with advice.

Thanks
Rog

Wow, you did a great job with that build. Very impressive.

THANKS for sharing the pictures. Sure does look good!

I'll look forward to hearing the soundclips and glad this build was a success for you.

With respect, 10thtx

Great Job!

Congratulations Rog!

You've really done a great job with the resources available on this design. I'm working on the "86 Special" version of this design and Ive found it very challenging to work without an established layout.

I admire your inventiveness and pursue of this amp.

Wow - you're all too kind

I hope to get a Visio layout of my exact build up with all the voltages when I get a chance and if the Visio trial doesn't suddenly expire

I hope that will be of help to anyone having a go at this baby, knowledge is power, even if it is only 5 watts. Could be a little more though with the 6V6 in.

Thanks again for the kind support and being part of the greatest amp forum in the world :D

Rog thanks for the pics, and future visio layout. That would be very much appreciated. I inch closer to starting this amp everyday. I hope to soob but have a few wrinkles to sort out myself. Sorry to hear about the lesson. I burned up a couple 5w resistors and a vvr if it makes ya feel better! $60 plus shipping gone in ten seconds, doh!

Mate I smoked my VVR trying to fit it into my 50w, so lucky that didn't get any damage. Still got that $60+ shipping sitting in my parts box.

The one I fitted in my old 5w SE worked perfectly though.
