Gotcha. Can't hurt to have as a backup. My backup is a Music Man 65, pure stock, and a Zen.
I think i'm still going to do the Halle build with my tonestack and see how i like it, from there i will start experimenting with more "true" dumble values (with the exception of my custom tone stack) and use the 6PS caps that were reccommended.
As i said im not looking for a "true" or "perfect" dumble but a good platform to design my own amp on. I do not wish for this to be a clone of any sort just a good dumble vibe with what my ear likes the best. I have a pretty small budget which will mostly be gone from the kit, and hopefully i'll have enough money for some KT-88 power tubes and some trannys to support them and the caps i need
I always thought that the Halle would be a good place to start, but I no longer do business with Weber.

Plus $250ish for shipping, plus tubes and i dont think it comes with a cab, the weber has cheap tubes, but not terrible (good for first tests) and a head cab which is very nice. I believe it is a vintage Marshall JMP cab.
Also i like the fact that the tubes are not "upside down" like dumbles. Not that it's terrible but the amp wont get as hot and will, in theory be more reliable because of that.
If i do decide to get another ceriatone i'd get another non-HRM without the trannies (to upgrade and also cut shipping costs) for $450.
It's true i've lost my marbles and i cant remember where i put them
Also i think ive made up my mind on using the 715P at the start as opposed to the mallorys. Im only skeptical because people claim they are a bit serile sounding while others say they are brighter and clearer, the latter being good since i am a midrange monster so i need that clarity to keep it from getting muddy

The 715's have a nasty kind of toppy grainy sort of grind..so if your layouts not perfect and you pick up some grit somewhere along the way those caps won't help the issue.. Especially if your trying something new or untested things can get ugly real quick if you know what I mean..If you have a proven design with all the bugs worked out it wouldn't be as critical...For as little as they cost I would use the PS..the 225's are sort of in between the 715's and PS..Not as sweet on the top as the PS but not as grainy as the 715's.. They all have the midrange thang!!.. You can get them at tubes and more or PM me and I'll send then to you at cost..Good Luck with the build..

Dumble had his choice of several types of caps and chose the polyester caps.
Tom makes a good point there. Plus a few years ago I did a cap shootout and the 715's lost by a huge margin. In Fender type amps they work ok, but the Dumble needs that smoothness.
I have a related question. I came across a mess of "NOS" 6PS caps that I think are about 20 years old. They test fine on my multimeter but I know they will be different in with real voltages on them.
Any opinion on using older caps???
Are the 6PS series still being made???
I also got a mess of sprauge "black beauties" any opinion on using them??
If it's worth anything, All the dumbles I've seen that were built in the last 10 years have 715 caps throughout, and after they are broken in, don't sound near as terrible as first fire up- Just sayin'
