My guess is these guys just experimented with components/values/types etc until it sounded right.

What kind of plate/screen voltages are in play here? Assuming the plates are high, what brand of tubes are taking the punishment?
Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...

Tung sols, Sovtek's and JJ's all seem to take the 700V (only 350 on the screens).

Thanks for the clips. If I was voting, I would go for the Bludo. It seemed a bit fuller and I heard some pleasant feedback on that clip, which tells me the amp is setup right (or to my liking, anyway). Its hard to go into more detail because I feel like some of the quality got lost in the recording process.

Then is the RF mod a misnomer, or did Robben experiment with no choke at some point?

That would make the OT Primary about 4K8 +/- for a +100 watter? (More like 150W I would think for 4 tubes. 30 mA plate current).

Hard to say, The Dumbles that have no choke Usually have Peavey Iron in them, and not having a choke is simply because the donor amp didn't have a choke.

I wonder where the Robben mod pointing to the choke resistor ever came from then?
Did his amps have the resistor at first then changed to a choke or vice versa?

Hard to say where the rumors started, probably came from the same guy that said a Dmble was a Fender with a Tubescreamer inside it!

I tried both 5881 Sovteks and the Tung Sols in my 700v MM Both sounded good but for some reason settled on the 5881's... I know having the 700v on the plates limits you a bit in the 6L6 category..Being more of a 6L6 guy wondered if anyone has tried something else (other than the aforementioned) possibly in the GC' style in that topology with any luck!!... Hey Brandon cure my curiosity here.. The Dumble amps you've seen with the Peavey Iron in it.. Which Peaveys did he swipe them out of and did you get a different vibe with those than the Fender Iron.. Better worse subjective.. Thanks

I've built 3 Dumble's from Peavey donors. 2 were VT-60's and one was a VTM-120, all were SS preamps with chorus. The PT has plenty of juice to supply heaters and B+ fpr the preamp and the output tube B+ comes out at about 455V with a bridge.

These amps sound great, one is my main gigging amp in the original 2X12 combo with Emi Tonker and Swamp Thang. Heavy as hell to lug around but after about 4 years it's still my goto amp.

Thanks Bob!!
I remember getting in aPeavey Roadmaster...6X6L's..w/12at7 CF coupled output section...Anyway Steel players loved it since it was a combo and fairly portable (If your Godzilla) had a decent reverb and headroom out the kazoot!! I remember this amp having some serious IRON in it...I remember thinking what a cool ODS amp I could build using these puppy's..I would of had that amp stripped and those transformers outta there faster than you could say..You guessed it Tubescreamer!!!

I have one of them in a head. I got it after some clown spilled a beer into it. I cleaned it up and it works, (except it needs a heater balance pot) but I can't justify spending the $ to retube this monster.

I actually think it would make a great bass amp. As an ODS it would be wayyyyyyy overkill.
