Re: D'Lite Blue Monkey?
Yeah, no problem, the PT is pec'd for EL34's and rated for 6.3v/8A, and HV/500mA IIRC.dr. who wrote:can it handle 4x el34?

Hi Tom.Structo wrote:Bob do you have a layout for this amp?Bob Simpson wrote:Hi.dr. who wrote:Are the reverb controls on the back of the amp? How is the reverb set up? Is it the reverb send amp, reverb return amp, and mix circuit, where the reverb volume is coupled with the od level, like in the odsr, or uncoupled like in the old odr's , or is it just standard old fender?
Thanks for any info.

The reverb knob is on the back.
I don't know about the setup.
There are pictures of a completed amp on the brownnote forum.
Maybe you could let me know...
Bob
No, no layout, no schematic, the BM88 pictures are now forbidden, and no replies to recent voicemail(s)...
I don't know what the f%$! I bought into...
Oh, well.
I guess I'll find out eventually...

Re: D'Lite Blue Monkey?
The htaccess on the BM88 directory isn't working, the pics are still there, but you can't browse the directory...not sure what's up with that but I made some changes to the server so I'm sure it's related to that and will be sorted out soon.Bob Simpson wrote:Hi Tom.Structo wrote:Bob do you have a layout for this amp?Bob Simpson wrote: Hi.

Re: D'Lite Blue Monkey?
I just noticed this.

You have to give it to Nik, he is always working. Mind you Moss's amp does look neater, it has reverb, and you've got to love the "choke" he uses!
I wonder when clips of both amps will turn up, either way I don't think anyone will be disappointed.

Re: D'Lite Blue Monkey?
Yeah I would like to hear the difference between the two.
Does the Brown Note BM have high plates?
I notice on Niks that he has the lower 150K/120K on V1 and 220K/150K on V2.
I also see that Nik moved the OD trimmer to the back of the chassis.
I think he must read every word here.

Dear Tom
I'm a bit of a Johnny-come-lately to the whole Dumble thing. What was the reason the OD trimmer was moved to the back of the amp?

I'd say it's mostly because none of us can ever stop tweaking and it's a pain to keep pulling the amp out of the chassis.Mark wrote:Dear Tom

BTW, I finally got around to checking email. I just responded to your Tuesday email.

Hey Mark, here's the gain trimmer:

Re: D'Lite Blue Monkey?
Dear Moss
The reverb control is the overdrive trimmer?
HAD could learn a thing or two about amp real estate from you guys.
Hmm, I find the am an not a real twiddler of knobs, I usually find a good sound and tend to stick with it until it doesn't meet my needs or the needs of the music being played.
I found the 11:00 position on the trimmer works for me.
I think the thing that is most strange about the D style amps is it "seems" to perform differently from a low volume bedroom environment to playing with a band. While the speaker could account for a large chunk of this, the amp is also playing a big part.
In fact in the bedroom, I have the OD gain at two to three o'clock and the OD volume set at 8:00 o'clock with the band I have both the gain and volume on 11:00 o'clock. In the bedroom situation the overdrive would be way louder than the cleaner tones, with the band the volume levels sound matched.
I have the tone and volume control in the same spot and I turn up the master volume for the extra volume required with the band.
To compound the situation further I have tried the amp with two different 12AX7 valve set ups. The first was with EH 12AX7 as the first valve and the PI, I used a JJ for valve 2. I also didn't use valve covers. I found this set up sounded wonderful, great tones, fantasic harmonics, though not much head room for clean playing.
In an effort to improve things, I used two NOS tubes I had lying around as V1 and V2, I used a Sovtek 12AX7LPS for the PI. The OD sounded a bit smoother at bedroom levels and the clean tones were a bit nicer. I wouldn't have thought there was a lot of difference though.
However with the band, the headroom of the amp was much better, but the wonderful harmonics weren't there, the OD had the aggresive Dumble sound going on, but last weeks tones were very useable while the aggresiveness sounded a bit more specialised for lack of a better term. I did use valve covers this time, but I doubt they would account for the headroom and harmonics. I'm inclinded to think the PI EH 12AX7 was a dud with lower output on one triode.
Though as I'm finding out with amp. more than likely I'm wrong.

The little thing in between the send and the reverb is the od trim pot.
