Real or memorex??

Now if you sold THAT board set and THAT chassis, that would be great...
I suspect most of the details on this amp come from things you have seen on real-deal amps. Could you post some more close-ups of the innards?

Re: Real or memorex??
Sure, which parts exactly?
FYI, those are the same boards I sell layout wise, I just took my usual PCB layout and etched boards. The Formica they sell at home depot, I just taped the formica to the other one and put it on the drill press, so the other one was a template of sorts.
The chassis is identical, I just had it annodized- it's a huge Pain in the butt that way, you have to remove the annodizing everywhere you need a gound because it's non-conductive.

Ok, I was comparing it to this amp. So the PC boards are the same except for the color and the chassis is the same except for the anodized interior.

Re: Real or memorex??
yeah, the only difference is cosmetic, and the Teflon coax vs the Gepco cable. The gepco is lower capacitance, the teflon is easier to work with, but 10x the price.

Do you recall the thickness of that stuff Funk, that looks like a good way for me to go, considering Mcmaster won't export their garolite. The Formica they sell at home depot.
Cheers,
Paul.

Paul check this shop:Turretboards.Do you recall the thickness of that stuff Funk, that looks like a good way for me to go, considering Mcmaster won't export their garolite.
Under "Circuit board material" you will find blank 1/8" boards cut at the right size. They like doing business with Europeans too.

Garolite is a tradename and the same as unclad G10/FR4 material.
The formica is about 1.5mm thick. Of course it MUST be wood grain for the best sound

Re: Real or memorex??
Thanks glasman,
I've searched all the places I can think of for Garolite but have not found it over here. There are a number of amp part suppliers over here that sell board material (garolite), but I can't see it in large enough widths to make Power supply boards for myself. I can get it copper clad in good sizes so I think the way forward will be to etch my own.
McMaster tell me that they supply a few 'choice' customers here in the UK but due to export restrictions they declined to supply me with any. I have managed to get hold of some using friends in the US, but a $6 sheet ends up costing me $60 by the time I've paid two lots of postage, import duties and agent fees. I just need to find out who these 'choice' customers are and ask them very nicely to chop a bit off for me.
Being able to pick up something from my local hardware store is kind of appealing.
I can't recall seeing formica, in our equivilants of home depot either, so I will continue my search.

Re: Real or memorex??
Melamine, Formica and HPL (High pressure laminate) materials can be found in the UK. This would be similar to the wood grained boards used in some Dumble amps:

Re: Real or memorex??
I have TONS of copper clad boards cut to size for these if you need. The ones that come with my chassis are FAR better quality, 3oz copper, solder mask, etc.
The only reason to do the etch your own is for asthetic purposes.

Thanks for the info ic-racer. I have had some free formica samples but they are only .026'' thick so have been a little wary of using them.
