I agree, I'd move those grounds to a ground point close to the cathodes. I've had problems with cathodes going to the buss like you've done.keithrick wrote:Bigmik,
I would also check your grounds on the cathodes again.

In Bigmik's defense, he's following the D'Lite layout with those Cathode grounds.
As pointed out, the white wire going from the treble wiper to the volume pot looks like it's also attached to the volume wiper - that's going to do cause some weirdness.
A minor point, the wire from the Volume wiper to the V1B grid resistor should be shielded.
But I haven't spotted anything obvious that would account for OD harshness so far.....

Re: help with d'lite OD
kiethrick hit the nail on the head ,the wire going from the treble pot to the volume pot was conected to the wiper and the input, I used the layout below and that's how it appeared to be connected, and to be honest I never checked the schematic until I read kieth's post :oops:thank's for pointing that out.I have already cilpped that out and removed the capacitor across the plates and needless to say dramatic improvement not hard or harsh at all.I am a happy camper ,and thank you'all for takeing the time to look at the pics and for your input and if you got anymore suggestions i'll take them too:D

Cool!!!
Re: help with d'lite OD
I remember seeing that layout with the volume pot wired like that.
I thought to myself, that doesn't look right so I found a different layout.
Hope your amp is working better now.

I'm just pointing out some differences I see...Just curious to why.

Re: help with d'lite OD
Hey Mik,
I wanted to remove some of the "high end" on my homegrown D'lite build.
I went directly to 470pf on the snubbers and found that it took off WAY to much sheen. Not sure how best to describe the resultant tone. "Dusty" maybe?
320pf worked the best for me when playing my main guitars (71 Les Paul Deluxe and a Hghwy 1 Strat with 69 custom shop PUs) through an Avatar 1X12 cab/ G12-65.
YMMV but I suggest having a couple of different values on hand just in case.
Good luck,
Dave O.

Ooops....sorry! Just noticed that you have already been in the 300'ish pf range. Please forgive me.

That one is the OD entrance mod. Supposed to smooth the OD a bit.DaveBo32 wrote:I'm just pointing out some differences I see...Just curious to why.
The other is the cathode bypass caps are reduced to change the bypass frequency. In this case I believe it is to allow less bass through.
imo, could be all wrong which is usually the case.......

strutco got got it right about the od entrance mod and about the bypass caps it cuts some bass and also tightens up the feel a bit both can be seen in the tweaked layout below

Re: help with d'lite OD
FWIW, I was recently tweaking in that area of my non-HRM build myself, so here's another data point. I found a .05 pre-od coupler to be virtually inaudible (something my Spice model backed up).
I'd humbly suggest swapping the .02 coupler off of CL2 and the .05 pre-OD. That should give you a bigger clean sound and a tighter OD. In my own build (which is not a D'Lite, but it's every close to this layout) I have a .05 CL2 coupler and a .005 in my Pre-OD network.
As always, YMMV.

Re: help with d'lite OD
i have had that roll of copper wire since I was a teen {NOS
}and didn't know why I was keeping it until I started building amps, not sure what awg it is, and no real reason for twisting it ,except it pulls really straight and I thought it looked cool.

Odourboy - I have an inclination to try this on my amp... a D'Lite clone - that is a clone of a clone?odourboy wrote:FWIW, I was recently tweaking in that area of my non-HRM build myself, so here's another data point. I'm new to playing through the ODS although it is sounding really good to me. I honestly don't know if I've if I've tweaked it to the max yet or not. I am still learning how to set my guitar and the amp controls, but in any case a bigger sounding clean and tighter OD sounds like something I would enjoy.
Let me make sure I've got you right about this... I'll attach a picture and if you don't mind will you verify that I've Identified the right components.
thanks
