Re: ODS 124 PCB Build
I used those exact Rubycon's from ebay and they're fine with the board
You can't use the Mallory it's a screw terminal and it's huge.

Man those sprague atom capacitors are big...
Can anyone tell me how the pins on this transistor are numbered?

The flat side with the metal tab connects to the heat sink.

Seems obvious now that you say it. You probably wouldn't be surprised to find out I'm blonde and went to public school.

In.case you ' re curious what it does: On your picture the voltage regulator pins are:
Left: V in
Middle: ground
Right: V out

Re: ODS 124 PCB Build
I swear, amplifier parts are 90% more likely to take wild non-sensical routes to arrive at my home. The tracking gets pretty weird sometimes. Anyway, I finally got some diodes, still waiting on the 300uf caps. Supposedly they'll arrive tomorrow but I'm not holding my breath.

Very nice build!
What are the benefits of using Sprague caps? In Europe they cost around 4 times more than F&T caps. Seems a little overpriced to me. Maybe not in the US.
Cheers

Re: ODS 124 PCB Build
I just went with what was included in the provided BOM. I also kind of want to make this like my last desktop computer build, with a plexiglass window to admire the innards.
I thought it was weird that the BOM specified the Sprague Atom, but they seem a little oversized.

Re: ODS 124 PCB Build
Yeah, I ended up ordering the ebay rubycons. I'd ordered the rubycons from arrow, but they do not have leads as described, they're snap in. So I'm returning them.
I had also gone ahead and ordered the mallorys also just because I was curious if I could make em work in a pinch. I chuckled when I pulled em out of the box. I might offer these free to anyone who wants to make em work for their own build just so I can see em mounted.

Re: ODS 124 PCB Build
Lol told ya! Impressive.
I used screw terminal caps like that (though a bit smaller) in a vintage Orange that needed a weird value and high voltage rating. Was fun but yeah def not for board mounting

Re: ODS 124 PCB Build
I've used those Mallory screw terminal caps in other amps. They are great caps (firm but not stiff) with a mellow top end
but are big though.
BTW. If you don't want them let me know since all my ODS amps are not PCB..Perhaps we can work out a trade if I have something you need..
Good Luck!

I like trades. Right now I still need to acquire the chassis-mounted stuff (jacks/pots/sockets). Feel free to dm me an offer.talbany wrote: ↑Thu Nov 26, 2020 9:06 am I've used those Mallory screw terminal caps in other amps. Re: ODS 124 PCB Build
Received some reasonably-sized capacitors in the mailand got them installed. I went through quite a few trial-errors before I landed on a set of 300uf caps that I could (easily) use.
First I accidentally ordered 100v, so those did me no good. The I ordered the mallorys but those were so big they felt like novelty items. Then I ordered the 450v from arrow, but got them refunded because the dimensions and lead type did not match the description on their site. Finally got the rubycons today and soldered them in.
Now I just need to get that chassis I ordered from AN and I can start sticking stuff together.
