Re: New Deluxe 5E3 Tweddle Dee build
Structo, yes using the same tube compliment as a stock 5E3. 12AY7 in V1 12AX7 in V2 6V6 in V3 and V4 and a 5Y3 in V5. All JJ's. I assume that is why the voltages are down on V1. I do not have a GZ34 and wanted to keep the heat down and listen to it to compare to my current 5E3 build. What I do notice is cleaner headroom and "violin" like note bloom and sustain. I'm going to try a 12AX7 in V1 and recheck voltages. I also set the PI trim pot to the ohm readings on Charlie's layout. However, this may not be correct due to not using the same tubes as the original. Is there a way to measure and set the PI pot accurately? I've red through several posts about it , but it was not clear to me exactly how it is set on this amp.

Installed 12AX7 in V1. voltages went from 107 vdc to 154 and 155 vdc

One more update, installed a GZ34 JJ tube. B+ was way above the spec on Charlies drawing. Came in at 426 vdc

Re: New Deluxe 5E3 Tweddle Dee build
Tom, I am currently running the same tube set that the stock 5E3 runs. I wanted to throw a GZ 34 rectifier in just to see what the voltages did and how close they were to Charlie's layout Guess what the B+ was way too high by 25 volts. I also wanted to hear the difference with the GZ 34 and the 12AX7
In the V1 position It is a very hot output it is a very hot output I am still having difficulties setting the power inverter trimmer any thoughts appreciated I did set them to Charlie's drawing at 3.56 on one side and 6.5 on the other side however I would like to measure some actual voltages but do not know where to take the voltage readings

Yes, but this isn't a stock 5E3.
It is based on a 5C3 and has two 12ax7's and two 6v6.
Not sure what you are trying but I would suggest you build it to spec then tweak it for your personal playing.
Don't mean to be a dick, it's just that a lot of new guys ask how to tune their amps although they have no baseline of the amp as designed.
Sure, I have subbed lower gain 12a*7's in an amp but that was usually after I
built the amp to spec and decided to make some changes.
The original 5C3 had 6SC7 preamp tubes that had around 70 mu.
Similar to the noval 12AT7 tube they are about the same gain.
As far as the trimmer on the PI goes, I would suggest to get the voltages as close
as possible to spec then adjust by ear, sustain, tone, etc.
If you already know all this then disregard.

Re: New Deluxe 5E3 Tweddle Dee build
Structo, your not being a dick. I'm not really looking for how to tweak it. Just observations on voltages in my last posts. I had ordered the whole JJ line up as it was originally built because I did not have the GZ34 and the other 12AX7. Now I do. With that said, my voltage observations were with a standard 5E3 tube set up, and now with the the Tweddle tube line up. I noticed the B+ voltages were much higher than Charlie's. Just wondered why. As far as the inverter pot goes, I set it to the ohm readings that were on the layout. My question was on the inverter voltages as a fine tune of the circuit. There was talk about a 6.5 volt difference , and just where is that point go measurement taken? As I read through the comments on phase inverter setup, some of them were unclear to me. Thanks in advance for your reply !

I did manage to record a video clip for those interested. Les Paul guitar. Sennheiser 906 mic. Give it a listen. I'm happy with how it turned out.

Nice man!
What's the speaker?
Love to hear that rig with a Tele.

Thanks ! The speaker is an Eminence 12 with a ceramic magnet. It is out of my 1993 blues Deluxe. Very broken in! Sorry , don't have a Tele. I do have a Strat , 65 soap bar SG and a 67 ES330. Maybe I'll do a couple more clips !!

Hmmm, some slide using that 65 soap bar SG and a Demeter Tremulator and you will be grinning from ear to ear.
