Did you use the tweed Deluxe power transformer?
The GZ34/ 5AR4 drops the least voltage of the more common
rectifier tubes that Fender used.

Yes I ordered that 5E3 PT but for 120v only.
I'm going to use my D'lite OT for the Tweed.

Re: Another Tweedle Dee 5E3.....
An interesting note about the celestion 50 is that fender uses it in their 4-12 cabinet for their mustang modeling amps, so I'm thinking they must be a pretty neutral sounding speaker if not the most efficient.
I would use the fact that HAD put it in an amp to dismiss anything somebody on the gear page might have to say.

Re: Another Tweedle Dee 5E3.....
There is nothing wrong with this speaker, I'm quire happy with it. I must try one of my G12-65s to compare but I like it so far.
I played it out last night. It was on for about 4 hours in a hot room and 2 things to note. It got really hot, the PT was still hot when I got home. Also the headroom seemed to evaporate in a full band with horns setting.
I need to go over CW's voltages as I am well down using the 5Y3. I also used the 330-0-330 tap and I think I'll try the 355v one.
I wonder how high I can run these GE6V6GTAs if I go to a 5U4GB then the GZ34? Data sheet says 350v on the plates.
The amp sounds great and I like the tone of power section but once the breakuo starts it was impossible to clean up from the guitar volume, which was annoying for the rhythm parts.
When I was setting up I was on about 1.5 behind the acrylic screen, I ended up on about 5.
EDIT-
Hmm, I was hoping to give the 5U4GB a run but after consulting Tom's list I see it draws 3A, this PT is rated for 2A on the 5V winding so it looks like I am stuck with 5Y3 or GZ34 both at ~ 2A... Or a 5V4 which I haven't got.

Re: Another Tweedle Dee 5E3.....
It's weird that we are seeing much different voltages on these things.
Different tubes? Rectifiers?
Anybody adjusting the dropping string to lower voltages?
Ideally, the voltages shown on Charlies layout would seem to be the correct ones.
His shows a GZ34 being used and about 400v on the plates.

Re: Another Tweedle Dee 5E3.....
Tom, I have completely changed my amp to CW's specs - GZ34 and JJ6V6s -
I have almost identical voltages right the way through from 399 B+ to 172v on V1 12AX7.
It sounds completely different now, plenty of headroom and the lion's roar at higher volume. I have stuck with the layout and so far, it is a great improvement on my attempt at taming the Tweedle Dee.
When I play it out I will be able to be more certain but as Jelle has noted, you need a Perspex screen!
I also jumpered from Bright to Normal - I like this choice too.

rogb - You mentioned earlier that you might try the higher voltage (355-0-355) secondary. Is the 399 VDC B+ you are now obtaining still using your 330-0-330 secondary? Also wondering what type of GZ34 (current production or NOS and brand) you are using. Thanks.

Parrott, yes that is with the 330 tap, the 355 came in at ca. 412v.
I use a Mullard GZ34 that I have had for many years. If you don't drop em, they should last a LONG time.
I am in the process of fitting a small computer fan to keep the heat under control. This comes from the rectifier and power tubes, not the PT.

Re: Another Tweedle Dee 5E3.....
My brain doesn't seem to be working today - I can't find the layout that Charlie Wilson posted for the Tweedle Dee - does anyone have a link or a copy? If you want, you can PM me or send to kmoonjax AT gmail DOT com if they don't want to post it.
Thanks!!!
EDIT - NEVER MIND
I guess I should have checked the stickies
