But, don't electrons flow at a set speed (like the speed of light?)
How would short leads increase response time?
How do longer leads on resistors create more noise?
Within reason of course, since we know that excess wire on tube grids and other areas are sensitive to noise.
For many years before circuit boards, point to point wiring was done efficiently with little to no extra noise.
Understand I am not picking on your Eric, just perplexed by the design layout itself.

If you play with a long enough guitar cord, you can feel the delay. I wonder what length of wire is in an amp? If you cut it in half, is it noticeable? I don't know. I've got an Opal that sounds great, but I'm not sure that it is faster than any other amp.

I bet they get them direct too, just like their rebranded blue (orange) caps. They are 5 band resistors. I'll order some if anyone wants to buy a bunch.ToneMerc wrote:If I had to guess again, bet they are close to the Q-lines (Draloric) HAD used.talbany wrote:Thanks Mike (aka Resistor Man)..Was thinking they have a Draloric look about them..ToneMerc wrote: Tony I very briefly researched these awhile back, my best guess without having any in hand was Vishay Draloric LCA series, .6 watts
TMAny ideas as to where to get these..
Thanks!!
Tony in the past I have ordered non-stock small special orders from Allied Electronics , but I don't think they do that anymore. My choice if I really wanted to chase these would to contact Farnell to see if they would do a small quanity special order. I would not even consider Mouser, I bet a min order would be 500 or 1000 of each value.
I bet TR gets them directly from the manufacturer.

If you use a wireless connection to the amp via a radio transmitter you will feel the delay too. It's not what transmission medium you use but the distance between your ears and the loudspeaker. 15ft (ca 5m) introduces 15 millisecs delay, equal roughly to 1 period of the 60Hz US mains frequency. You may or may not notice it but 30 millisecs is noticeable. Go to a philharmonic concert with a full orchestra. Great conductors can together with a great orchestra compensate for time delay caused by distance between front violins and horns in the back. Not so great ones can't and the listening experience is not as enjoyable ...mhartman wrote:If you play with a long enough guitar cord, you can feel the delay. As for TR guys rationale for short leads inside the amp, the theory is correct but irrelevant. He must have read something about radar pulses and microwaves. Not applicable here at all. Pure MBS.

Eric I like the TR sloppy style works for me. The Dumbles are too hard for me to wire up and I don't need stinking relays for switching.Eric: Personally, I find their amps funny looking and a bit sloppy for the money. That said, they sound pretty good, so what do I know?

I wouldn't mind getting some resistors too but who's going to order?
Re: want 2 Rok JM signature tone board layout
No picking implied.....just reporting what they told me. The TR guys were trying to get me to buy an Opal amp that was at a Santa Cruz music store. This was about 5 years ago, the amp was a lemon, it stayed in the store for three years that I know of, just didn't sound that great.Structo wrote:But, don't electrons flow at a set speed (like the speed of light?)

The short lead thing comes and goes within the audiophool community.
People talk about hearing cable I can agree with that, the only person I've every heard talk about how "fast" or "slow" an amp was was Danny Gatton. I remember some interview he gave where he talked about having his amps modded so they had less wire in them and the response time from striking a note ad the amp was more accurate.

Seems to me that the way the switches are wired in these two schematics is upside down in a tubes down chassis?
Also, on the deep switch how is the signal going through the 270k resistors?

Never mind I figured it out looking at the Ceriatone JM 100w SSS layout.

Re: want 2 Rok JM signature tone board layout
I made some rookie mistakes on my board but caught them when I started wiring up the amp. If I ever build this amp again it will have a slightly longer board and components placed my way.
On fire up the amp is too bright, going to study these schematics and other schematics to see WTF is going on. The reverb works yahoo!
Bias was way to low 17mA so fixing that.
Lucky for you guys I lost my camera.
