So some, or most of the wiring is between the boards then, right? I hadn't noticed that before.
Yes. The utility of a backing board is questionable because it would be unlikely for a lead to stick all the way through and short out on the chassis (unlike the boards that are not mounted on standoffs). But the pictures of most Dumble amps show a backing board behind the main board.
He used stiffer stuff. The Wilsonart stuff is thinner and mine came with a distinct curve to it.

Dave, no that's IC's excellent 90's HRM build, not my build. I was trying not to start a new thread, maybe I can get Tom to cull this thread some.

TM: I need an octet of EL34/KT77/6CA7 (HiFi rig with VTL Compact 100's) that can handle 525vdc B+
Do you like the 6CA7 from JJ?

Haha, ok Mike, my mistake. That's what I get for skimming the thread.

I have a quartet of "Winged C" el34 in a #183 clone with vintage Partridge transformers, that were sourced from an old 70s Laney amp.

B+ is 560VDC.

So far the have delivered 2 year of relentless performance.

Be carefull with the bias. I run it at 18mv, which is on the hotter side.

A Friendly reminder.
you may want to ohm that board out if you have not already.. That stuff can get conductive..

Thanks Tony, yeah I've used that formica board before and it tests and works fine. However, I installed parts on it earlier and after staring at it for a few moments, I asked myself why am I really doing this when I have a more suited board ready to go. Thus, I stripped the formica board and populated this one.

I haven't found enough of those resistors to populate a board. :)

I've been slack on scrounging vintage parts in the last year or so because I haven't built a full blown ODS in like a year and half. When I pulled parts for this build over a year ago I had intended to be different and use all CDE brown drops. I decided a few days ago to stick with what know and use the 70-90s vintage 6PS caps. So when culling parts earlier I found I only have one .1 left and low on a few other values,so maybe I will be turning overs rocks soon looking for vintage 6PS caps again. This build will have 30% taper CTS AUD pots,a couple which are actually NOS.

It takes a lot of work to find vintage parts. You can search everyday for 12 months and come up short, then take a break for 6 months and halfheartedly search and trip over what you have been looking for all along.

I have found the difference between the old 70's PS series and the newer ones to be not that much different (after break in and oriented shield to PS) and not worth the time and added expense to go scrounging for them..YMMV of coarse!..BTW.. Good move on the board I think.. :D

Good Luck with the build!

Tony, did you mean 'not worth the time'? I'm confused.
Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...

I think he was saying that if you adopt the methods of breaking in the new caps and orientating their outer foil, then it's not worth the effort of chasing the vintage ones.
