Re: My #102 Build.
I hardly play anymore, but just got into the amp building bug recently. I'm just running through a Celestion in an old Line6 Spider, but already things look really good. I can hear how it sounds through some greenbacks.dcribbs1412 wrote:Congrats jazzyjoepass

Yes !!! I ditched the 68pF and the tone network on the Preamp Out/Power IN.
Things really sound fantastic and I notice most schematics don't have that, so why the 68pF on RF's ???
Re: My #102 Build.
For use with a dumblelator. 68pF sounds terrible without a dumblelator.jazzyjoepass wrote:amplifiednation wrote:I ditched the 68pf too...I think 102 sounds great!!

Re: My #102 Build.
I have the 68p in my 102 clone, which is always used together with a D_lator (with minimix II for paralleling effects)
Sounds great and the 68p turns the master volume into a kind om master fat control. on 9 oclock the bottom end is reduced a bit an on 12 its much fatter.

						Re: My #102 Build.
My understanding is that the 68pf is to compensate for cable losses when connecting the D'lator. Am I correct?

Re: My #102 Build.
yes think so, but I've learned long ago from user Dogears, that you have to regard #102 + dumbleator + cables as a "system".dobbhill wrote:My understanding is that the 68pf is to compensate for cable losses when connecting the D'lator. Am I correct?

And the 68p is part of that system.

Re: My #102 Build.
A bypass cap on the master volume would seem like the wrong place to compensate for cable losses.bluesfendermanblues wrote:yes think so, but I've learned long ago from user Dogears, that you have to regard #102 + dumbleator + cables as a "system".dobbhill wrote:My understanding is that the 68pf is to compensate for cable losses when connecting the D'lator. Without getting into the maths, the cable losses are pretty constant regardless of the volume played, but the compensated highs with the bypass cap is variable with respect to the master volume.
Anyone can chime on this ???

Re: My #102 Build.
The master on the amp is a set and forget thing(for me standard at noon) The real mastervolume is the last stage of the dumblelator.jazzyjoepass wrote:A bypass cap on the master volume would seem like the wrong place to compensate for cable losses.bluesfendermanblues wrote:yes think so, but I've learned long ago from user Dogears, that you have to regard #102 + dumbleator + cables as a "system".dobbhill wrote:My understanding is that the 68pf is to compensate for cable losses when connecting the D'lator. Re: My #102 Build.
In my travels it's best to use the bright cap before the D-lator ..Another words brighten the tone then smooth it and kill some highs using the Pf rating of the cables with the loop rather than the other way around.. With the loop attached it's a system..FWIW...With the loop in I set my master vol (on the amp) at 7, you want to drive the follower in the loop..
