Great looking build. What a versatile amp!
Re: Starting new build 2nd gen 100watt HRM...(Finished!!)
V1=Telefunken 12ax7, V2=Mullard 12ax7, V3=Mullard 12AT7.
Man the 12at7 PI really sounds neat!
One happy camper till re-tube time comes. Guess I can sell my other tubes now (and my other amps for that matter) to stock up...

Yeah those JFET's can easily be damaged.
Here is a pinout.
You are seeing the bottom of the JFET.

We need clips! Really nicely executed build. You could call it the Gonzo amp
Re: Starting new build 2nd gen 100watt HRM...(Finished!!)
Here's some clips I put up on sound click;
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default ... ID=1251629
Guitar is '78 fender hardtail strat with 100 year old strings, lap steel is old "white" student 6 string with 200 year old strings and dead battery EMG SA. 2 EV's in a marshall 4x12 (detuned) cab with a DR100 mic right on the grill cloth straight into garage band with no effects.
Can't quite get the full "bloom" but I like the tones for what I do. Would like to hear a 'bucker guitar through it but I don't have one.
Still need to sort out the cab and get the FET happening.

Nice. I can hear the kerang in the Hiwatt clip. I bet it will bloom more after you break it in.
Re: Starting new build 2nd gen 100watt HRM...(Finished!!)
Finally finished, with some more burn-in and in the combo cabinet with twin EV's this thing is sounding real nice! Still trying to decide between casters or a road case for it. let's see...I seem to recall a tread on Neo speakers a while ago...

My single coil pickups are ~5.5k across the board, this thing would be scary with some buckers through it!

great looking build
4 button footswitch?
2 EV's in that cab....
bet it weighs a few pounds!
no handle...who/what do you summon to move that monster?

Thanks guys-
The 4 button does FET, OD, and separate mega-boosts for the clean tonestack and HRM.
I'm still trying to figure out if I want handles and casters on this thing, I don't want it too high off the floor and loose some low end reinforcement, and sometimes I like to put it up on it's side like everybody does with their 2x12s these days and Jerry used to run his twin heads up on their side and I'm worried the casters would rattle hanging out there and leave a gap when I run 3 cabinets in my eventual wet-dry-wet set up.
I'll probably make a dedicated dolly for it, or do the old punk-rock method and keep a skateboard in the trunk (honey, I need a new longboard!)
I don't play out at all anyways between my agoraphobia and living in a cultural wasteland, but I do have a reunion gig coming up for my old band from 20 years ago down in the bay area and I'm moving back down there this month, so who knows wish me luck...

Cool Cab! Walnut? Clips sounded great, too! Congrats on completion. Where at in NorCal? I used to live in a cultural wasteland up there......

I'm in Red Bluff, the local kids call it dead bluff...

Re: Starting new build 2nd gen 100watt HRM...(Finished!!)
You could go with plug-in casters. That way, if you tip it up on its side, you could just pull the casters out until it's time to move the amp.
I live in a NorCal wasteland..... it's called Trinity County..... Lived here for five years before I got something musically worthwhile going. Had to pretty much give up jazz and R&B in favor of classic rock. But no complaints; I cut my teeth on Hendrix back in high school, so it's like "coming back home".
