I think I've mentioned elsewhere on this forum that I like turning the tone control presets up. I thought the lower settings loaded down the 12AX7 it was attached to (at a guess) as the amp sounded more open with the higher settings.

I found that I needed to adjust the HRM with several different guitars over several different days. I actually wonder if (independant dual) pots are a better option?

I seemed to work, though at high gain settings the compression is quite noticeable. Perhaps I need to keep tweaking those pots?

right now ive been running my bass all the way up (its a 500k) Is your bass pot a standard 1meg? or something like ceriatone's 250k?
The HRM bass trimmer is 220K and the main bass pot is 500K. And yes, I have a Ceriatone HRM 50. I forget to mention that.
I backed off the bass a bunch and the notes seem to be much more defined all around, those lower mids dont muddy out. Thanks for the tip.
Glad to hear it. :) I don't know if it was the amp breaking in or just realizing what sounded better. But when I first played the amp I set it like other amps I've played and set the bass higher than what was best.

I have wondered if it would be better to adjust the tone stack so the there is more room for adjustment on the bass. I'm happy with the way it is now so I haven't done anything.

I think a big part of what i was struggling with was that i didnt always have the oppertunity to crank the amp up. So when i was playing at lower volumes i over compensated with the bass pot. As it stands, i have a 500k pot at about half way. This has given me the best results so far.

The best results are what it's all about. I think using single versus humbuckers will effect settings, speaker response is another factor.

There there is the number of guitars you'll play through the amp. I definitely suggest trying a lot different guitars and a room that you know sounds either neutral or good. The bigger the better probably.

For what it is worth that is my take.

I have found using the guidelines that are posted at the amp garage are just a starting place. I tune the amp by ear after that. And yes, HRM bass control is just cracked.

I thought the You Tube clip was bright considering the fact you're using a 4 X 12" cab. I'd be inclined to increase the bass and mid pots. After all would you play a Marshall amp with the bass and mid pots nearly off and the treble at 11:00?

I think most people wouldn't. Record the position with a marker and experiment.

My amp is probably a bit thicker and bluesy sounding than the above clip. I love it with my Les Paul. My mate gets a great sound out of it with Strat, while I find I have difficulties the Strat.
