I think this thread has got a little off track. The poor guy simply wants the pleasure of building his own amp, and the amp he wants to build doesn't need an OD section as he has a collection of pedals that does the job he wants doing! Back to your original question, of course you can build a D-style amp with just the clean channel. If you look at any of the schematics, you will see that the OD section is totally isolated and is simply switched into the signal chain when required. In your build, all you have to do is omit that section. Now, back to my original question....which pre-amp are you looking for?...High plate 220k/150k (eg ODS101)?..Med plate 150k/120k (eg. Bluesmaster)?...or Low plate 100k/100k (eg #124)?. In general High plate = large frequency range, high harmonic content + headroom......Low plate = Fendery, narrower frequency range + quicker break up... Med plate = in between!! I suggest you do a search for these schematics and get your head around them. Do you know about "Classic" and "Skyliner" tone stacks? I'll say again, its not that straight forward!
All IMHO, of course.

Maybe that goes against the grain, but I am not trying to be Robben Ford. I also use AlNiCo speakers, sue me?
Just as a general statement, I am seeking some advice on a build, not how to play my amplifiers. My apologies for not following the typical internet Dumble code, I am too busy worrying about my own sound. Touring has also taken up a lot of my time over the last decade or so, let me know what part of the country you guys live in so I can collect on that bet, ok? You can tell my how bad the pedals sound after the show and I will not get offended, I promise you.
Is this website not about sharing build information?
I see your point LPSGME, and I may just go ahead and build a straight out clone without the FET, though my intentions are to use the clean channel only. If anyone else cares to chime in, BS aside, I would appreciate it.
That being the case I'm curious what you hear as any difference, say between the Bludo or your other Two Rocks clean compared to what you are looking for. I would think you could get it just as easily modifying one of the amps you already have.
I modded my amp to include as many switchable tone and texture elements as possible - no matter how subtle they seem at times: a front adjustable PI control; switchable LNFB on V1b; switchable snubber on V2b; switchable slope on V1a; center OFF rock/jazz; adjustable gain on the PAB; and switchable speakers (1 ceramic to 2 alnico).
When saying this I ment purely that I do not know very much about building an amplifier from the ground up. I am not interested in modifying an expensive amplifier I may sell in the future, plus I have much interest in building something that I can use, not modifying it.

I stand corrected. I like pedals as well, and I build pedals but overall the Dumble OD is superior IMHOanalogjunkie wrote: Everyone is different. Like I said before, just take the Dumble schematics from the files section, cut out the OD relay and all ckts on V2 and you have it. Keep in mind that you may want to try several options like different tone stacks, local negative feedback, etc.
You can also take the stock Fender AB763, drop the vibrato channel (unless you want the reverb and trem) and mod the tone stack to dumble specs.
There's a ton of options here, so I'd start by drawing up the schematic and layout, post them here and have the experts check it over.

Yes,build an AB763 Fender and add the local negative feedback and possibly a mid boost.(use a Twin Reverb normal channel)
You can get a layout at www.schematicheaven.com and the Dumble mods for Fender's are there too.
The you would have a kick-ass clean amp that takes pedals really nicely.

Crystal latice or vacuum, that is the question.
