Ah ha.

so swapping the cables and I now have a difference in resistance when flipping the switch across the two 22m resistors :D

0R to 450k and 0R to 22M

the relay is still totally silent though???

Ok I've rewired the OD relay and.................

ITS WORKING I HAVE LOVELY OVERDRIVE :D

PAB not working though still. I'm going to have another look at this in case I've rewired wrongly. I think I've;

swapped the diode orientation,

and swapped the in and out cables from the diagram in page 6.

Martin your a gentleman and a genius :D

Fantastic! You should be well on your way to getting the PAB sorted out now. Make those measurements I requested above for the PAB and maybe we can get a clue now that the relay is working.

WOW.....WOW...WOW.......

re soldered the PAB connections and it's all working.

just been playing it for the last hour.

It sings, that's the only way I can describe it. It's definitely got that woody Robben ford tone with the 335 but the note sustain is unlike anything I've played before.

it's not as chimey as a fender or my JTM45 but it has a wonderful 'singing' (there we go again), quality.

I'm reluctant to touch anything as it sounds so good :D

I suppose I should tweak the PI and the OD trimmers and what should I bias it at considering I've got just over 450v ?

Bias: For 6L6GC 100% is 30W/450V=0.0667, so say 0.6 times that or 0.040A, but use your ears too.

What are the voltages on the PI plates now? If it's really singing for you the PI trimmer is probably in a good place.

it's actually at 40 now Martin which is the limit of the bias pot.

Yes I thought that too about the PI, hence my comment about not touching it.

Once again thank you for your invaluable help in this Martin, I couldn't have done it without you. Thanks also to everyone else here who's contributed to me building what not long ago was a complete pipe dream. It's now a very tangible reality.

I'll post some finished shots when I've tweaked and put it in its cab.

:D

Cheers, Marcus! I always learn something in the process, and of course I get a kick out of seeing the problem solved.
