Re: *New Build Thread* 2nd Gen Hybrid 50w footswitchable FET
Taylor, I had trouble a while back with the power amp in jack. The switch tab wasn't making good contact and I was getting an intermitent scratchy master pot. I ran some very fine grit (1500) wet sand paper in between the two tabs on the jack and that solved the problem. I don't know if your problem is related to the jack but this may be worth a try.

Re: *New Build Thread* 2nd Gen Hybrid 50w footswitchable FET
I'm not sure what it was... but i wired the clean master back in, no scratchy pot, everything works perfect again.
I really don't know.
Next time I'm going to use sockets for these relays, I tried so hard not to burn them and of course hit the corner of the OD relay with the edge of my iron...
I learned a ton during this build. I still need to get the switchable FET working. It's not wired up yet. I may try to get a little more boost out of the mid/deep switch, I used a 1000pf cap vs the 2000pf in the layout, I have a couple larger values I will give them a try, I need to settle in a little bit first.
oh, and i need a cabinet!!!!

Taylor on my snakeskin one I used 1000pf (on board)and 680pf or 750pf silver micas. Then on 004 I used 2200 and 390.amplifiednation wrote:I may try to get a little more boost out of the mid/deep switch, I used a 1000pf cap vs the 2000pf in the layout, I have a couple larger values

Re: *New Build Thread* 2nd Gen Hybrid 50w footswitchable FET
Nice, I am going to try the 2200pf to see if I can get a bigger boost, I need to step away from this amp for a day or two!!
All mounted up!! I love these CE chassis, but in both my Dumble builds I've fought a losing battle with at least one of the captive nuts that thread the chassis. I'm about ready to drill right through the entire chassis and mount this "Fender style".
I finally joined the Buckskin suede club that I started last summer!!! I fought hard not to use the brown vox, but I just couldn't resist.

Yeah, the screw can't be canted any and you must lube those mounting nuts threads.
The cab looks great!

Yeah man! The compression is really cool, and it sounds very "horny" if you will...like saxophone horny.boldaslove6789 wrote:

The amp is smooth, but more raunchy than my 102, funny because there is less gain! It You can actually hear the 2nd harmonic riding on the notes like another octive. I'm excited to get the FET going.
The cleans are awesome!!!! I'll get some clips going soon... These amps are like getting a whole new guitar...need a few to figure it all out!!

Yeah, I broke a mounting screw as well.
There is a Sticky post about the CE chassis and mounting screws and what to look out for.

I didn't cross thread or break the screw, instead, one of the little thread inserts came out and I couldn't get it to seat back in the chassis. Virtually the same end result.
Hey at least we know now if you do break a screw you can punch it out!!! I got really frustrated after an hour of it popping in and then out and gave up. I may try another method of attaching these chassis. The best way I've seen so far is the cage nuts or sending a long threaded screw all the way through the chassis and bolt it underneath-virtually foolproof.

Interesting, from my experience the 70's voicing seems to have a Fuzzy quality, but with looser mids than say a low plate Skyline...amplifiednation wrote: Yeah man! The compression is really cool, and it sounds very "horny" if you will...like saxophone horny.

I've never been great at describing these qualities, I think it may have been more related to the pickups in one of my telecasters.boldaslove6789 wrote:Interesting, from my experience the 70's voicing seems to have a Fuzzy quality, but with looser mids than say a low plate Skyline...amplifiednation wrote: Yeah man! Here's a video clip with a Lester, let me know what you think...I'll have to get one with just the amp too.

Re: *New Build Thread* 2nd Gen Hybrid 50w footswitchable FET
Hi Taylor, I am in the middle of a 4x6V6 2nd gen hybrid build and was wondering why the gnfb resistor is shown as 3k3 when it is shown as 820R on Tonys 2nd gen layout. Did you ever try the lower value? BTW great build which has inspired me to have a go!
Re: *New Build Thread* 2nd Gen Hybrid 50w footswitchable FET
Taylor, I think you may have the OD relay wired incorrectly.
The wire from the Master should be the first eyelet.
Then #2 to the OD entrance
Then #3 to the next eyelet is jumpered to the last
#4 is ground
#5 goes to OD volume
$6 to V1b coupler cap (.01 or .05)
