Today I made some clips with the different coupling caps.
All dlators have no fx in the loop except for the favourite_dlator clip.
Recording was done with a condenser mic at 6 1/2/feet(2 meter).
Hum you hear is: neon light picked up by my strat.
You were in the room so you know best. The Cornell's were the most HiFi on cleans the Xicons had a cool metallic upper mid thing and the Orange drop were warmer on the cleans. On the dirty part he Orange drops were clearly better for the smooth sing, the Xicons would probably project to the back of the room the best and the Cornell's were my least favorite. I guess you need a clean Dumbleator and a Dirty Dumbleator.

Thnx Henry.
Hmmm... a dirty dumblelator and a clean dumblelator; switchable off course, with relays
"Tubes are all JJ, because they have a certain constant quality. "
hi there
Great research. If I may throw in my two cents. While I use and recommend JJ preamp and power tubes because I like the way they sound, I have found that the quality control is not 100%. Let me explain. I do quite a few repairs, tuneups etc. on lots of vintage and more modern amps. For a while, customers (1-2) per month were coming back to me with problems in amps that I had worked on. Very embarassing, because I always felt like it was something to do with my work/workmanship. While I could possibly make a mistake, I make it a habit of being very careful. It took a few months but gradually, after trouble shooting I began to notice a commonality. The amps were coming back with failed or low output JJ Ecc83/12ax7. I called my supplier (one of the biggest in the country) and lodged a complaint. They did admit that they were getting some complaints other than mine regarding these tubes. They gladly accepted a return for credit. Point is, now, with each retube, I check and test all JJ Ecc83 on a good old fashioned tube tester. According to the reference manual for this tube tester, any 12ax7 that tests higher than 22 or higher on the scale is considered "good". While I have not kept accurate records, I would approximate between 1 in 4 to 1 in 6 do not test properly, testing much below 22. Also the A and B sides of the dual triode show huge differences, 50% to 100%. So to sum it up, I now test all tubes fresh out of the box before installing in to the amps.
