Sorry guys I got those at The Gear Page on the Dumble thread. (which one, right?)
That's all there was, not very good resolution.
Brandon might know more about them.

By the looks of it, it seems the boards are PCB with PC mount sockets for the preamp. Is this right?
I don't think the sockets are PCB mounted but definitely a PCB amp.

Sockets are not PCB mounted.

As any child that ever read an "amp shootout" in Guitar Player etc. knows: PCB amps suck! Only "point to point" (or was it "pint to pint"?) building can end up in great amps!

Now we know indeed that Mr. Dumble obviously doesn't have the faintest idea how to build great amps. PCB crap! Couldn't believe my eyes!

Or could it even be a fake?

Cheers

sockets not pcb, thats garolite, he drilled out for a direct socket mount on the garolite....very smart idea. mount the tube socket on turrets....I do the same with my relays.

Yes, D was known for using pcb for power supply in his later amps.

ps. Its not that a pcb inherantly sucks, its just often manufactures use pcb as a way to reduce costs, which in turn reduces quality. Fantastic amps can be built on pcb, but often the boards are custom.

THANKS FOR THE PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(cant say it enough)

I think they are regular chassis mount tube sockets with solid wire leads soldered between the socket terminals and the PCB pads.

Those pictures have been floating around this forum for quite some time.

Max is that a clone in that picture?

Regardless I would guess one could at least us the layout when building their own version of an SSS.

very possible, and a stronger method of attachment than I suggested.

good question, m. Is this a clone or the real deal?

Is that Kaisers 100w? If so then it sounds amazing. I think it's my favorite SSS after the KTC...whatever happened to that amp?

This gut shot has "Dumble" written all over it. If Dumble didn't build this then...Barack Obama did!

I just thought Max was being sarcastic in his post...kinda tongue in cheek.

SVT Power Amp Schematic

Post by RJ Guitars »

This project has been a slow one to develop even by my own standards. But I've gotten back in the saddle and again looking to make some progress on this amp.

"Thank you" to the folks that posted the SSS gut shots... they have been kicking around behind the scenes for a while but it looks like they are now public knowledge with the post from the gear page. Hopefully nobody has suffered any pain for this release.

I recently started folding the SVT power schematic into my own SSS schematic when I recognized that it was immensely different than my preconceived notion.

As I look at this, the 12BH7's are driving the power tubes off of their cathodes - do I have this right? I also haven't sorted out the 15K trimmer pots but they don't seem as odd to me as the tube orientation.

Curious what anybody knows about this... what it accomplishes and why it works to help keep these amps super clean. I recognize that I might be seeing something that isn't what I think it is... so pardon me if I missed something obvious here.

This all becomes relevant to the SSS amp if we can make the case that it also uses the SVT style 12BH7 drivers into the power section.

Any well informed persons or otherwise qualified amp genius care to enlighten me a bit?

Simple explanation: When output tubes are pushed they want to draw grid current. Configuring a tube to use it's cathode as it's output is called a "Current Amplifier" (unlike the typical gain stage "voltage amplifier"). This way the output tubes can draw grid current which the driver tube (operating as a current amplifier) can supply.
