Bluesmaster and guitar volume control problems

Post by tonejunkie »

I am still trying to tweak my bluesmaster to my liking and there is one problem that I cannot stand that has shown up when playing live. There is a big volume and gain jump between 9 and 10 when I use my guitars volume knob (same on all of my guitars). None of my 3 non HRM's have done this but this bluesmaster does. Is it a trait of the bluesmaster or a trait of some wiring problem? Thanks guys

Well, the only thing I can think of is that the gain level in your BM (with your settings) is such that there is not a lot of compression happening at the amp. So you turn the guitar volume up and you get a volume jump. I can't say that I have that happen in my BM, but in ALL of my amps, if the gain level is marginal with humbuckers, with a Strat there is a lot less compression going on and the lead channel's volume will be louder than with humbuckers (which compress and crunch, as opposed to adding volume). This problem is very noticeable if you ever used a compressor pedal, for example. In some cases, the compressed volume (even with the control pegged up) is less than the "normal" volume with humbucker. A well-known issue with the old Ross-type compressors.
