Decrease in volume

Post by DaveBo32 »

I have had my dlite 22 for over a year now. Over the past year I have been constanly trying different things, like adding reverb, and changing various components. Anyways, all this tweaking took its toll on my amp. I started to get crackling sounds that I could not pin point. So the worst case scenerio became a reality. I rebuilt the entire main board and power supply over. I discovered I had two brittle wires on the power supply, a resistor with a weak lead, and numerous cold solder joints. So it was worth it.
I'm up and running again, but my amp lacks volume. Its quite and sounds good, but isn't as loud as before. I did build the power supply with the original dropping string value of 1k, 22k, 2.2k, 220k which is giving me higher voltage values, but nothing that stands out unexpected. I probally will adjust that later to smooth things out. Everything seems ok. Does anyone know what could contibute to a lack in volume? Help! I just build a beatiful head to mount this baby in.. :(

Did you remember to ground the two sets of cathode bypass (caps/resistors) on the two preamp tubes to the ground buss?

I'm up and running again with normal volumes. I do have a minor crackling when I push the amp hard. So there is probally another cold solder joint somewhere. For now, I'm going to enjoy it for a little. I really like the reverb I added. The problem was the red wire from the reverb transformer was stuck under the PI section of the main board. When I was soldering in the wires from V3, the heat from the lead hanging below the board melted a pin hole in the red wire causing a short. I'm glad nothing major happened. I can sleep tonight! :D
