Nope. I've never referenced you at all for the Dumble thing, you made that leap on your own. How it went from the Concorde to Dumbles I'll never know. And if you'd really read all 64 of my posts, you'd see that I contributed a few things, so that's a lie you've posted as well. Not too many people knew the safe limits for using a variac on breaking in their speakers here, from what I could see from a thread a few months back.Funkalicousgroove wrote: I think you may have me mixed up with Allyn Meyers (the owner of this forum) since I believe it was him you were attacking in the earlier post that I cited in my warm and heartfelt introduction. I just Call em like I see em. by the way, I just read all 69 of your posts, and at least half of them were hocking your re-labeled weber speakers. At least I help folks here get tones they are after. There is NOTHING that has been posted on this Dumble forum that I didn't know before I came here, and plenty of new info that I posted, whereas YOU contribute nothing-- Lives under a bridge, eats billy goats gruff.
I'm familiar with many of the same folks you are, Brandon, including the behind the scenes players and I know you got Larry Carlton's amp to reverse engineer. How many others, I don't know, nor do I care. So let's clear that up right now, OK? I've got no problem with you, or anyone else, cloning Dumbles, or TrainWrecks, either.
As for the cloning of the Komet Concorde, which is specifically what your "almost complete" quote of my post that you got from Greg on another forum originally referenced, I have a problem with it IF you're just cloning it and selling it with logos as a Komet, or saying it's as good as or better, or an exact clone. Allyn has taken the Concorde and enhanced it to another level. And, for those who thought I was attacking Allyn, he and I cleared this up something like TWO YEARS AGO through my association with Billy Yates. In fact, I acquired one of his clones through a trade for a cabinet 18 months ago, and got in touch with Allyn to get an upgrade for the footswitch mod to the gradual/fast mode. If I'd had a Concorde I would have likely done the same upgrades. There were issues with the clone I got, and through Allen & Billy Yates, it's now been fixed to work really well. But I wouldn't have sought out the amp myself if it wasn't on a trade, and it hadn't come to me at a price point I could live with, either. I have put about $350 into enhancing it and making it work the way it should. And I did compare it to Concorde #7 and the owner of #7 and I couldn't hear a $2000 difference. Yes, there was a difference, but not enough to justify that much $$$.
It's when people put the original logos on an amp, call it the real thing/clone/whatever and say it's as good as that I have an issue. If anyone is that good a cloner, put your own name on it, call it a recreation or an "inspired by" or whatever, but don't say you've created a whole new circuit and decide/judge on your own that you've cloned it better than the original designer (such as Ken) without some backup/testimonials. Again, this was never aimed at you, nor were you mentioned. So basically you just felt like being argumentative, is all I can deduce. I had a few decent tour players (Kirk Fletcher for one) and Robben Ford's old guitar tech (Jeff Rivera) and six other players tell me the difference between the pre rola Celestions and Scumbacks were "splitting hairs", so I didn't arrive at the conclusion on my own.
As for my "re-labeled Webers"...huh...that's pretty funny. Now I know you've got no clue as to how my speakers came about. Here's what Ted had to say about it on the Z forum years back.
Anyway... Southbay sent me a bunch of vintage speakers with detailed notes on each one, what he liked about it, what he didn't. Now, these were all original, well broken in, and had a certain sound and character he heard in his head. So, he asked me to build a bunch of prototypes, document the treatments, parts, etc. and send them for evaluation. He picked the few that had that tone he had been hearing and those became the models he sells.
Here's the thread to verify it: http://drzamplifiers.proboards.com/inde ... 075&page=1
While the 25/30w models are pretty decent tone clones, I put my own label on them and call them a recreation, not a pre rola, even though they have that tone.
The other models I've come out with are enhancements, changes that made sense for newer amps, and with higher power ratings. I'll be the first to say that if you can afford four pre rolas, go get them! I did, to the tune of about $40,000 worth over five years. But if you're restoring an old cab, by all means, spend $400-500 per speaker and get them if you can find them.
What I offer is that tone, with modified current production materials and models that are ridiculously close to the 25/30w originals and higher powered models that are really close, or create an extension of the tone that Celestion never offered.
I'm really weary of this. I've explained this years ago when I joined here. I've said my piece. I've explained my position. If anyone else needs clarification, or if you just want to flame me for whatever reason, my email is easy to find. Peace, out.
