dumble speaker cabinet

Post by ampcrack »

Hi everybody,

I'm new here, I own a Dumble and I was wondering if anybody has had any experience buying something from Music Ground in London?

They have a 2x 12" Dumble cabinet.

If it's a real Dumble, mind posting some pictures of the insides and some sound clips?

Save yourself the trouble and buy a Glaswerks or THD cabi with austin speaker works 65 and a g12-65 celestion gold. You're welcome.

ampcrack,

I haven't actually bought anything from Music Ground but they are a long established vintage retailer here in the UK. They do tend to charge top whack for their gear, particularly when selling vintage Marshalls in the American market. I seem to remember reading in his book that Aspen Pitman (Groove tubes) sourced a number of his Marshalls from them.

They were also selling items on ebay.co.uk at one time but I can't find any listings at the moment. Their feedback rating had slipped into the mid 90's with a few unhappy customers. :? as I recall.

In my dealings and conversations with them, they seem to come across as a little arrogant, so customer service may not be high on their agenda. (but then again, that can be said of a number of the stores in Denmark Street or maybe it's just an English thing.

If you are intent on persuing it, I may be up in London next week and can check it out for you, although I can't make any promises. Send me a PM

Cheers, Paul.

Before you think about buying anything of "vintage" or of value from them, do a search for them at 18watt.com and see what you come up with.

Dear wdiggs,

yes it's a real Dumble. Are there any exact clones??

Sorry, but at the moment I don't want to send any pictures.

Do you own a Dumble?

Thanks for writing.

And that's why I'm asking.

But thanks for your offer.

Here's a link.

At todays exchange rate, thats $8,471.2183. That counts me out of the bidding.

Good luck ampcrack.

BTW. The cabs are at their Leeds store, not London.

They have two available, according to the auction.

I wonder if Dumbles are their latest thing given they appear to have sold more 18W Marshalls themselves than were ever manufactured. :?

That's what I was thinking as well.

I suppose if you can afford to be in that market you would contact the seller.

But yes, that is pretty pitiful not to have pics.

Music Ground has been accused of converting Marshall Populars into 1974s and trying to sell them as such. I have no personal experience, so take it with a grain of salt.

Is your amp a 100W or a 50W? I believe I would go with EVs for a 100W amp...or a 4-12". I'm not sure how long a G1265 2-12" lasts before having speaker problems. Depends on how loud you play, of course.

There are a number of great US builders on this board who can do you right. If you're in the UK, then I'm not so sure who you'd want to contact.

How many "real" Dumbles do you need? I am sure MG will be able to supply all of them very quickly, as much as any quantity of any model Bluesbreaker, white JTM45s, 18W combos, early Parks, along their genuine new Hiwatts and JMIs.

I love the fact that someone would be foolish enough to pay $8K for a wood box! and not a particularly well constructed one from the ones that I have seen!! at least I use dovetails and marine grade birch, the dumble cabs are made from regular plywood or pine and have butt joints!!

They sound like the perfect candidates for anyone that wants to make fakes. No special tools to buy for finger jointing and no particularly refined woodworking skills needed.

Funk, do the originals have any badges or logos anywhere on them to distinguish/ identify them from any other cab out there that may have the same dimensions? Robben's doesn't!

My advice would have to be, save $7500 and have one made as a homage to the big guy  (Obviously don't then try to sell it as an original, besides you don't want to tread on MG's toes. )

From what I hear, the top end of the vintage/ collectables market has taken the biggest hit in the recent economic climate, so 8K for a cab wouldn't be where i was putting my money at the moment.
