Amp volume when making critical listening judgements???

Post by longislandrod »

I'm curious in hearing at what volume do you guys set your amps at when making critical listening judgments, like when assessing tonal qualities after swapping out caps or other parts.

Does it need to gig volume or not?

I would say yes, eventually you have to listen to the amp at volume.

The problem with most shops is they are usually not big enough for a fair listening test.
The place is full of gear that will buzz and rattle making it not a very ideal place to listen to changes you have made.

So the next best thing is for it to go to a gig and tested there.

If the player is capable of putting his review of the amp in technical words all the better.

But I think the venue does play a part in how the amp is going to sound.

Don't let that smoke out!
