pt, output, and choke for a d'lite
was wondering what transformer upgrade people have used for their 6L6 dlite amps
Re: pt, output, and choke for a d'lite
I recently installed a Prosonic output transformer I bought from Angela Instruments.
Big beefy, twice the size of the stock one. 4, 8, 16 ohm taps.
I also bought a choke from Antique Electronics, 4H @ 90ma.
I haven't installed that yet.

thanks for the reply,
what has the difference been in sound?
what other transformers are compatible with this amp. twin reverb, bassman?

I haven't had a chance to put it through it's paces real well yet at volume but from what I have heard I like it a lot. Just seems beefier, good bottom end, chuggy.
You can use any push-pull OT that is for 2x6L6 output.
The reason I chose this one was because it is among the few that have the 4, 8, 16 ohm taps on the secondary.
You can use a Bassman, Hot Rod amps, etc but a lot of those only have a 4 ohm or 2 ohm taps.
The Prosonic OT is rated at 50 watts.
Be aware that you will have to drill at least three or four new holes in the chassis to mount this.

Re: pt, output, and choke for a d'lite
I got a bassman OT from Ruby. I heard it was what HD used. I got a standard Fender twin choke.
The choke really enhanced the responsiveness of the amp and deepened the overall tone. Every lead tone was just on the edge of feedback, in a good way.
When I swapped out the OT, the tone got much bassier, in a good way but I lost a bit of the on the edge harmonics thing.
You will not need the bass mod for sure. BTW, getting rid of that mod will bring out the magic midrange.
The end result was a much bigger, deeper sounding amp with a bit more fundamental and a little less in the harmonics.

What is the output impedance on your Bassman OT?
When I looked at those they had 2 ohm and 4 ohm but no multi taps like 4, 8, and 16 ohm.
What are the specs on your choke?
Mine is 4H @ 90ma.
The DC resistance checks out at around 100 ohms.
I haven't installed it yet due to the holiday stuff but hopefully I will get it in next week.
It's funny when I made the change on the OD network it seemed to really brighten up the amp. To where I had to put the .05uf mid cap back in.
Next I will try to jumper the bass pot and have it disconnect when the PAB relay is on.
I need to fine tune the tone a bit and may try to do that with voltages and tubes for now.

They have one that is 2,4 ,8 . I think I would have preferred 4,8,16.
I think mine is 2 0r 4H @ 90 ma as well.
I noticed a similar change when I did the OD entrance mod. I'm not sure if it's actually brighter or just stiffer but it's surely different.
