D-lator based direct box?

Post by rfgordon »

Guys,
I'm pondering building an all tube direct box for running my acoustic (which has a passive I Beam pickup) into a PA.

Do y'all think something like gain stage > tone stack > gain stage > Dumbleator cathode follower output would work into a balanced out put?

Yeah, the units like the Baggs and the Redbox are fine, but where's the fun in just buying one off the shelf?

I saw the Jensen Transformer design ideas, but those little trannies are expensive!

But they're pretty much what's in all the pro bass preamps like Demeter and Kern. I'd bet they're half that in production quantities.
