Presence Control

Post by Karl »

Does anyone have a part number for the 1.0uF presence cap that fits a Funk board?

Is it particularly hard to fit a cap on those boards? Any 1.0uF film cap should work fine...doesn't even have real voltage on it in that slot.

Usually it is a 1.0uf electrolytic. The 35 or 50V ones should fit.

Dumble also used 1.0uf tantalum on some amps. If you are building a bluesmaster you want a .1u poly cap in that position.

I use a 1uf radial cap 35v and bend the leads out, for the BM PI I use a NTE .1uf @ 250v

I've used mouser 5989-100V1.0-F, which is a CDE type DME 1uF, 100V polyester film. Seems fine, but I'm not the same class as Funk and glasman. I'm probably more the cottonears type.

Ain't nothing fancy about my presence caps.

For 1's it is either Xicon or Nichicon

For .1uf I use Xicon MPP's (trying to deplete stock).

Honestly I like a .68uF cap there. The 1uF presence control seems to be a tad harsh in the upper mids. I tried a .68 and love it. Less brightness from the presence, but more pleasing.
