Master volume Brightness cap, to cap or not to cap?

Post by Rob Livesey »

Hi Guys,

I finally got around to tweaking the Overtone Special last week. I had already swapped in the 220k before the 100k OD trimmer and I had swapped the OD Level pot to 100k Linear from the 250k which was stock.
These changes improved the amp a great deal in OD mode.

Last week I went through all the "jzucker mods" which I believed were arrived at with a lot of contributions from members of this board.

I took the amp out last night and had a good time with it, but I found that the amp lacked high end. With my 335, I ended up running with the Bright Switch ON, the treble at about 7.5 and the Presence on about 7 and still thought I could use a little more.

The "jzucker layout" can be seen here:

Based on your experience and use of these amps and your knowledge of how this particular amp might work. Would you suggest that I put a Master Volume cap back in and if so what values would you suggest?

Or, is there another way you would suggest putting the zing back in?

I ran the amp on about 3.5 on the Master all night, not very loud, which is why I think the cap would have an effect and why I think I might need it back in.

All input greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Rob.
