Great chops, Scott. Put me in the #2 clip camp. Even with the nuances of these amps, you do need to drive them to get the dynamics. Skip

Scott - is it possible that robben ford uses a bluesmaster?

After using the Bluesmaster at rehearsal Tuesday, with TC2290, I am certain. Regardless of the sound of this clip, in the room, it was so RF that the other guitarist (who has heard every incaarnation of my amps) said this rig was dead on. He was standing on the other side of the rehearsal studio.
Even more interesting is the tone of the cleans with the megaboost on. Absolutely nailed that kind of in between Ford/Carlton thing. We do know for a 100% fact that LC uses a Bluesmaster so it is not a stretch to imagine RF with one.

Re: Bludotone Bluesmaster clip
when I heard your clip - it just sounded so good and had that "thing" to it that I love about robbens tone!

I agree. I converted one of my two D-builds to a HRM-BM config, except it has the "other" PI-and-presence control (not 25K pot). This is BY FAR the closest thing I have to Jing Chi tone. My other is a non-HRM w/ BM-style PI and does not have that tone - still a great tone, but not THAT tone.
The BM tone stack w/ mega-boost is the ticket, IMHO, for that tone. I also think (at this point, so far) that the non-BM PI is smoother and more Robben-like. However, I intend to try both PI circuits in my next build (Funk chassis), which will be a 100-watter.

Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...

For a 50 watter, the non BM PI seems to smooth things. That is what I have in the Glaswerks. The 100 watter sounds sick with the BM PI! More headroom. More girth. I like. Stays fatter.
