Ceriatone Overtone MV cap snipping question...Newbie!

Post by Mondoslug »

Newbie here...as you can tell by this question. Go gentle!

So what happens if I snip the cap on the Master Volume, ya know provided I've discharged the caps properly & all that? The amp in general is going to be a tad less bright?

TIA!

You may get better results by using a 3 foot cable in the loop to smooth things. Sounds better to me....

Also, Nik has the OD tuned kind of bright from what I am told by many. There are a couple of tweaks to address that. PM me your number if you want to chat. It is Scott btw....

Welcome Mondoslug.

Are you tweaking a Ceriatone build? Can't wait to hear some clips with your amp. I always enjoy your music posts on theGearPage. Is it the OD you are looking to tame - or the clean channel? Are you using a bright cap? and what is it? You may try a "treble bleed" of sorts if it's the OD. 1 cap and 1 resistor - and easy to remove if you don't like. One combo is: .001uF orange drop cap to a 330k to ground off pin 6 of V2. As Scott mentioned - a length of cable in the loop - or eventually a Dumbleator there.

Happy tweaking!

Hey Dave & Scott! Thanks for the info. Actually I bought one already assembled....I don't have the cojones for DYI. It comes tomorrow...I'm just catching up on my Overtone reading and seeing what's out there. I have like zero amp tweaking chops. I'm not sure how into that part of it I want to get but who knows.

Thanks!

Is this the same mode that Gil Ayan does with a pot in his design? Also, is that V2A or V2B?

Not quite the same, Jack. I hang my "treble bleed" off the input of the "RATIO" control, so at the junction of the 180K (or 150K in other amps) and the 100KL pot, at the output of V2B. Dave is also talking about V2B, but he does it before the cap and 180K resistor. In other words, Dave is partially bypassing V2B's plate loade resistor, while I am not doing that.
