This is another clip recorded today using a Tele Deluxe with old SD Super Distorsion pickups. I'm using a single-12 Celestion Legend 1218 speaker in an open-back cabinet. Please ignore the lame playing.
I'm still not getting the honk everyone else is after. We used the available D'Lite schematics and drawings to build my amp. Any specific suggestions on what cap values, etc. to use? My other clip is at https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.php?t=5028.
Thanks,
Bob

In no particular order here are some things to try if your not happy with the sound.
Is this 220k/150k(3k3/2k2) plates on both V1 and V2? - if not try that .
If good - stop
else
Is this the 15k and 10k dropping string? if it is try going to 22k and 2k2.
If good - stop
else
Do you have a FET simulation resistor of 150k at the end of the string? - if not try one
If good - stop
else
increase or decrease the FET simulation resistor on clipleads using V1a voltages as a yardstick try 180V up in 5 volt increments (185, 190,195 etc) until you get to your favorite sound.
If good - stop
else
come back to the forum for more suggestions.

Honk
Heistl,
Thanks for the info. I'll have to pull the amp out of its cabinet and verify what we put in there. Then I'll try your suggestions. Do you have any opinion on how much diference the speaker makes? Yesterday I listened to lots of dogears' clips with EVM, tonker, G12H-65, other Celestion speakers, etc. that he has tried over the years and although you can hear the smoothness, etc. change, the mid-range honk is still there. It does not appear that I'm getting any of that. I'm getting a more smooth sound (Santana-like), I think. Do you guys all get that sound by also doing a lot of adjusting of your guitar tone knobs? I had assumed that the amp should have enough variability to get the honk without that. But maybe the suggestions you gave me will get me there (?).
Thanks,
Bob

Honestly I think I'd start by simply lowering the gain. You kinda want to get that point where it just starts into the overdrive, not complete saturation.

DPB - Cool licks and great tone. I think I need to have you record one with my amp. I'm curious if I've got honk and/or if you could make mine sing as sweet as yours.
Try to find the humor in that a few hundred thousand guys want to cop Santana's tone and you've got it working nice... I'm sure HAD worked pretty hard to get to that same place.
Remember how you got it so that when you get honk you can tell us all how to get the Santana vibe.

Mid Boost?
I think your tone is cool. In the other thread with build pics it appears that you don't have a mid boost switch. Maybe that is the "honk" you are hearing in other's clips.
Re: New Clip - Still need advice on how to get the honk!
That's a fine tone man. Have you tried different guitars w/ different pickups. I think some lower output pickups might yield a little less mid compression that I hear w/ your tone.
