I discovered a problem with my recording rig. I was running the output of my mic-pre into the hi-Z input on the front of my EMU 1616M breakout box. This was messing with the tone. These clips are the EMU built in mic pre so no issues. SM57 mic and G1265 speaker. Baker B1 on bridge.
The amp is now a non-Bluesmaster PI. Standard feedback and presence. HRM. High plates. 270pf snubs on for todays clip. Standard PAB, no mega boost. Propietary lowgain network with appropriate HRM settings I may have had a small 15pf bright cap pn the OD master for last weeks clips. Can't remember. I have it on a switch. Todays was off. I think the others had it on.
Clip from this AM. I swap the OD tube from EH to RFT at the 2:31 mark. Gain a little lower than the other clips. Mic was probably an inch or so to the edge more here as well. I think I like the RFT tone more. Better edge and more harmonics. No? http://www.scottlernermusic.com/2008/Wi ... sEhRft.mp3

Love the new "185" clip. I have finally discovered one of the things that contributes to make your playing an the HRM flavor be a marriage made in heaven!
I didn't mention anything on your post on TGP, but I am liking the "185" clip, the lesser gain one, best as well. Just sounds great!! The others sound great too, but this one is my favorite! Probably a combo of playing and tone that does it for me.
Really enjoyed all the clips - even the more gain one. The tone lost a little of it's edge with that much gain, but still very pleasing sound. I used to keep the i5 in my gig bag, but use it more and more to record - I was wondering how all that tone was coming from a 57!
yeah, really liked the willis clip, thats a keeper...little more singing and sustain to my ears than the other..a tad brighter than the 185 seemed, which I liked. nice . good bite
it really is a journey, and you just cant farm out the battle wounds
