2nd gen hybrid build

Post by Synchu »

Kinda of a documenting the 2nd gen hybrid build that I finished some weeks ago. There was a bit of tweaking/tube rolling going on for the past few weeks and may still go, but it is pretty much done.
Many thanks to Erwin for the great PCB set and the chassis!
Quite a change for me, as I used to drill and stuff all this myself, but I definitely don't miss that - esp. for an ODS - so stuffing eyelets and turrets was no more in this one :)

It is quite a basic build, nothing too fancy - installed 3-way Bright switch (on-off-on) with 68pf and 500pf ceramics, and may have changed few cap values. Didn't have all of 6ps series in the stash (amazingly enough as it is quite a stash - hate it when it turns like that :) ) and didn't want to wait so had to roll in what I had in place. May look funky, but does sound great. Followed Erwin note for the Bass pot wired to 183 spec.

The sound is excellent, both clean and overdriven and the FET is great on this one!

Looking at all the great, tidy, neat builds posted lately, I am sort of hesitant to post, but nonetheless here are the pics:

and some sounds. All guitar tracks recorded with the amp - first tune Les Paul Special type guitar, second with a Tele.

Nice build and great sounds, Niki! This circiut loves singlecoils or brighter sounding humbuckers like filtertrons IMO
Which transformers are you using?

Cool looking build. Good to see those boards in another amp. Sounds great. Enjoyed the jam greatly.

Thanks. Appreciated.

These are Inmadout Twin set from Italy.

I wouldn’t classify it as dark amp, necessarily, it is rather balanced with the right speakers. But I like sparkly cleans, hence I put the 68pf on one of the bright switch positions as the original 500pf, while useful with humbuckers, is overly bright with singles.
