I've been screaming about these old Black plates here for years. My favorite 6L tube in an ODS
I have them in my 102/183. Bluesmaster and my 2nd Generation. Nothing matches the sweet top end of an old Blackplate.
Tony
Yes I remember your subtle reference to the black plates They were intended for a special occasion; guess that one has arrived. Thanks!

Problem is though Erwin, when you have to change them...... what then?

The old RCA Black Plates are in a class built by themselves!. The term "They don't make em like they used to" apply's to these tubes. Bias them on the cool side and as long as they don't go microphonic and keep a check on them they usually have twice the life of a new stock tube. The ones in my High plate sky are old pulls still sound great going on 3 years of light use. (I am amazed they still work) An old set of Black Plates and matching RCA 12Ax7's in a 2nd generation amp is a thing of beauty. I am sure Dumble would agree
Enjoy them Erwin
Tony
Was I screaming again?
" The psychics on my bench is the same as Dumble'"
So many things to like in this build, really nice Erwin. I see some parts that are really hard to source in The Netherlands. Mainly those nos resistors. I also wonder where you got those faceplates. Looks nice! Is that Tube Town?

Thanks! Those NOS resistors came from a army dump +/- 10yrs ago, I ordered the faceplate at Schaeffer Germany. It is brushed anodized aluminium with the control markings printed. It is a lot of work getting the holes exactly lined up with the chassis. I'm not a cad guy, but once done the process is fairly quick and pays of in terms of looks.
There are some Schaeffers I know of Erwin, a company making big wheel loaders and the other one making ball points. Maybe you've got a link or something? I'd like the same, but inverted: black anodised, blank or white letters/logo.
Good looking cabs too Erwin. Made those yourself too?

This is the company: https://www.schaeffer-ag.de/produkte/?lang=en
The cabs are made by tube town, they do a great job!
In the sale section I ve got a pcb, chassis and front plate set with the black and the lettering white.
Thanks Erwin! That's a nice company by the looks of it. Wonderful options on the faceplates, IMHO much nicer than the Tube Town offerings. Well, nicer... Different might be a better word. Your faceplates are 2 mm thick I think? Can you share anything about the costs of those faceplates. Mind you, my layout is very different from yours, so I need to order my own faceplates anyhow.
