Most of the major amp models can be guestimated pretty close, I think, but I'm just wondering how many Dumbles there really are out there...

I am going to guess something over 300. I have heard of high 290+ numbers. But I doubt we will never know.

There are a LOT of amps that he keeps as part of his consulting business for studios (WEX, Megaplex, Angels Breath etc etc etc). From what I have heard via close sources, you rent the amp, you rent the man.

The one Megaplex that was sold to an LA studio was in the $20K+ range. That is ONE expensive marshall :).

"WEX, Megaplex, Angels Breath etc etc etc"

So the Megaplex is of Marshall circuitry?
Angels Breath is solid state?
What is WEX?

Megaplex according to a friend who has played it is the BEST sounding Marshall style amp he has ever played.

The Angels Breath is supposed class A tube.

The WEX is .............. I don't know. There is a picture of it (I think) in the Into the Night video of Santana and Chad Kroeger. The actual recording used a Dumble ODR, a Mesa Boogie and an undisclosed amp from Arizona.

I couldn't see much in that video. I'm really interested in hearing a clip of those amps. Is the class a amp in TW territory or something completely different?

What constitutes the best sounding Marshall?

I can think of the Cream/Hendrix stuff with the Marshall with KT-66's then there was the LZ stuff, EVH tones, and the hairspray tones too.

err,.....that'd be the one you tell people was the best sounding Marshall you heard/played.

You only rely on your own ears in this one. :)

Ahh but I've played a few Marshalls that are the best at what they do.

This is what I was trying find out, what qualities did the player love about this amp. If the guy likes the early seventies Marshalls, well that is something I wouldn't bond with, if it had JTM like tones well that is different. The only thing we can rule out it isn't a high gain monster.
