Yeah, it's vinyl. But it's textured and it's as easy to work with as tolex.

Did you make the cabinet? Is there some kind of formula or plan for determining the exact dimensions of the oval port on the back?

Darn! I like the idea of real checkerplate.Still looks very cool.
I believe there is a formula for the oval hole but I tried a few of those oval holes but didn't care for the tone.Alittle experimantation would be in order here.Try a few different sizes on scap wood and see which one sounds the best to your ears and go for it.Might be a good way to tune the amp for different rooms.
