Hoyt Axton's Dumble for sale in Nashville
Hoyt Axton’s amp. Old school songwriter from the 60’s-80’s at least. He had a California period, but I can’t find anyone that even knew he had one or saw him play it out. Word around the campfire is that it was re-capped about a year ago. Supposedly a family member brought it out of storage. Anyone got anything else on this one?

Isn't this the PCB amp with no serial number?

I was just lookin at this earlierAnyone got anything else on this one?
Amps looks to be a "Transition Generation"look Low plate classic /LNFB on V1B/Standard OD configuration PAB /w accent switch.PCB Style loaded with his old Brown Dales and Q-lines and X5F's I'll bet she sounds good!. Altec Lansing (coffee can) Alnico
The only thing strange about the amp other than the PCB is it only has 50 uF filtering on the plates. looks KILLER!!
The amp has obviously been recapped with replacement TVA Atoms.
I just caught CW thread. Got more pics and info.I believe that video is the same amp. https://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... t=redshark

With 50 uf on 100-W amp and low plate, it must be squishy....which is nice.
Apparently the two Two Rock TS-1's Joe B got (which were supposed to be clones of one of his Dumbles) burned up, were fixed and failed again...he sent them back and told them to "sell them off". The Instagram posts from Joe and Two Rock were scrubbed from the internet...ouch..

He owns 4 Dumble Combos at this point. I think this makes # 5

Hell Why not!!
Buy them play them a while then sell them off or trade them out for more money than he paid for them not to mention the tax benefits (write off the buy's) because the amp/guitar now has "Star Status" not to mention that dealers are more likely to give Joe a decent deal on them than you or I. I am sure with his connections Joe has no trouble selling off Dumbles. If I were him I would be doing the same thing.
Any word on why those amps failed?. (Transformers maybe?) The Rocks I've seen and have been in were not stellar builds but didn't look like fires waiting to happen either although, I have not been in any for a while??
I too prefer the 50 uF's over the 100's as well

Yeah he's quite the collector. There's a video on Youtube of him showing off his collection of amps, he has TONS of vintage fenders as well. I guess if you're making the kind of money he makes, collecting amps is fun!

The fun thing is you can depreciate gear for tax purposes, while it appreciates in value. I did this while I was a working musician for a spell. Buying a tuxedo or costume that can’t be worn as normal daily clothes (and the upkeep like dry cleaning or alterations) were deductible. Tax laws have since changed, but I’m no longer a working musician, so 8 don’t know the ropes anymore.
Joe basically said “they crapped out twice, so they went back”. One was described as smoked. Nobodies perfect I guess. Even a Dumble he took out gave him issues. Having seen gut shots, I spotted a number of things I might’ve changed or done differently or modded, had I been the tech doing maintenance fwiw.

You have to figure going in, that building an amplifier for someone like Bonamassa where your amps will be subject to many hours in the back of a semi crossing the country multiple times in a year in all kinds of nasty weather not to mention the volumes at which the guy runs his gear that the stress alone on just the tubes is fierce!!. These things are wheeled right off a truck and right on stage where the roadies flip the switch.FUCHSAUDIO wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2019 12:11 am The fun thing is you can depreciate gear for tax purposes, while it appreciates in value. I agree though for those clients you have to stap everything down, wrap all your connections, locktite all your bolts and go over everything with a magnifying glass. Still you can overbuild its no guarantee. It's only as reliable as it's weakest link which is 90% of the time tube related. Tubes go, takes something else out, hello smoke, your phone rings
Guy's here is an old bias meter and a spare set of tubes and some fuses. Put them in your drawer PLEASE!
It's interesting from 1992 to 2001 I wrote off everything batteries gas to gigs strings etc. I was always amazed at how much money I spent just getting to the stage and keeping a good sounding rig. BTW. I never knew you could include depreciation on gear. Great now I lost more money Thanks Andy.

Re: Hoyt Axton's Dumble for sale in Nashville
No doubt. We do locktite all over, wiring is tied down and/or wire tied or heat shrink (Marshall style) bundling..We burn our amps for 40 hours (4-on 4-off for a week), beat them with a rubber mallet and such. No doubt Joe rides his gear hard. But no player whether they are a weekend warrior or playing Albert Hall deserves 100% support of a product built 100% solid. Heck, for a high end client you pick NOS or selected old tubes or components to go the extra mile. At-least I would.
I recently fixed a TS-1 that had a few odd component choices (sonic, not reliability stuff) as well as an obvious wiring error on the front panel. Kinda makes you wonder who's building and testing these. We re-voiced the amp for the customer (it was dark with bass on zero and treble on full when we started) and he was quite pleased.
