Coax/Layout Question

Post by donvan »

It seems like the wire that goes from the master volume across the amp to the effects jacks on the 183 would have been a good candidate for coax. Does anyone know why coax is not used here? I would just like to understand this.

Thanks,
Don

It's just a question of signal vs noise. After the second triode, the signal is loud enough that noise from the unshielded run is not a problem, and it's best to avoid extra capacitance from a long run of shielded cable. I built my #183 in exactly this manner, with no trouble from noise.

That makes perfect sense. Thanks for the quick response!
