my 40 watt overdrive rocket

Post by phsyconoodler »

My clone is a 40 watt version with reverb.Sounds pretty damn good to me.
The reverb is a one tube unit and an accutronics tank.
Here's a shot of the cabinet.

What did you use on your chassis front panel.
It almost looks like that old wrinkle paint that was popular in the 50's and 60's especially on HAM gear. Very cool.
Is it silk screened as well?

Hey, I just finished a D'Lite 44 head kit.
I had thought about making my own cab but when I saw the one Moss offered and it looked pretty Dumbleish I went ahead and got that too.
Some day I'll do a scratch build and try to do as well as most of you guys.

The panel is a plastic laser one with a 'mottled' black finish. It indeed looks and feels like the old wrinkle paints.
I do all my own panels with a laser machine.I even do wood panels on my V-Verb amps and others.
Here's a shot of an ash panel on a Princeton reverb I built.

Nice! That ash looks great! :D
Does the laser burn the wood slightly?
O always wondered how those worked, I have seen some really intricate laser engraving jobs on different things.
How is the depth of the letters set, by the power of the beam?

So the black one you what, painted it then laser engrave the text?

The intensity of the laser is adjustable so it burns the wood to the set depth. It can do very fine detail work.
The plastic plate comes with the mottled finish and a white back layer. The only panels I have to paint are reverse plexi ones.

Great build! You got some humungo SM caps for snubbers. What size? Mine are 1000pf that look like that.
