Output transformer for dlite question

Post by dragonbat13 »

I need some help with an output transformer for my dlite build.

I am using a BN Dlite chassis. I have this power transformer:

http://www.mojotone.com/amp-parts/Trans ... ransformer

Its a bolt in for my dlite chassis. I am building my amp as a 2x6l6.

I am gathering up the remainder of the parts to finish it, I need an output transformer. I want one that will have the correct imp. taps for the chassis, 4/8/16. I know the Hammond has a funky secondary setup.

I have considered using either a prosonic OT, or a Hammond 1650N.

I was originally gonna just go with the prosonic. But then I came across the Hammond. Then I figured I may as well ask around. I am not opposed to drilling holes for a different OT footprint.

Any recommendations on which way to go?

Thanks!

I built a D'Lite for someone (complete gut and redo) some years ago. I am reasonably sure that the OT supplied was a Bassman OT. The amp sounded very good.

!!!!
Now ya know, I had originally wanted to use a bassman OT, but for some crazy reason I couldn't find one with 4/8/16 secondary taps. That's what had me on the hunt. I know a bassman iron works quite well for this amp.

So you post that, and I figure it would take one last look,

well low and behold:

Well, thanks.

BTW, you got any relay boards for sale?

Actually, I am wanting to get more headroom with some larger iron. IIRC the dlite output transformers were somewhat undersized?

Is this the transformer for the 22 watt or the larger 6l6 based amp?

The Dlite had Vibrolux type PT and OT (4K & 8K)

I would use the Classictone bassman 4/8/16 OT they are good transformers or buy the one Jelle has.

Maybe Colossal has a Mercury transformer sitting around. :D

Actually the 18092 or 18001 would be a much better choice. It has the M6 laminate and the 18009 does not. Otherwise the specs are the same.

I used the 18092 for a couple of builds and it sounds great! One was a KT77 power amp and one was a D'MARS ODS with 5881/6L6 output tubes, which also sounds pretty good with 6V6 tubes in it.

Something else to consider. I swapped a 50 watt marshall 2204 output transformer (4/8/16, 3.3K) into my brown note build and loved the way it sounded with both 5881 and el34 tubes!

Cheers
